BlogHer Was Great. Home Is Better!

I'm really thankful to JVC for making my first BlogHer experience so comfortable and memorable! I had great fun at BlogHer not only because of the bags of goodies being handed out to me, but more importantly, because of the opportunity to meet and mingle with my favorite bloggers! I became very excited every time I recognized the author of a blog I love based on her Blogger or Twitter avatar-Deb@Just A Mom's Take on Things, Amy@Resourceful Mommy, Janice & Susan @5 Minutes for Mom, Briana@Briana Bargains, Melissa@Consumer Queen, Shannon@From Cribs to Car Keys, and Jenna@For The Love Of Baby, just to name a few. It was a great pleasure to hang out with these nice ladies, whom I felt that I had known for quite some time.

I'm very happy to get to know Kim@Mission Mommy, the first bloggy friend I met in person (we were in fact on the same flights to and from Chicago), and Keep It Classy Jen, a beautiful and energetic girl that I met numerous times-each time in a different but similarly gorgeous outfit. Could you imagine how upset I was when I realized that I had left my camera on the bookshelf at home? Silly me!!! Luckily I ran into Rick@Tiny Prints, who is very tall, warm and loves taking pictures with his huge professional camera. Go check out his BlogHer09 album on Flickr!

There was no doubt that BlogHer conference was like heaven to freebie and party lovers, but not a single moment at those fabulous events was more precious than the moment when my son welcomed me home with a sweet kiss! Home is still the number one place where I feel most relaxed and at ease. I have never parted with my son for such a long time and I missed him tremendously. So I decided to take a few days off the Internet and spent all my time with my little man. Now you may stop wondering why I didn't tell you about my BlogHer adventure sooner. I read quite a few great blog entries for the Top 10 Reasons to Stay Home during BlogHer Weekend contest and I strongly identify with what being outlined. Should I attend BlogHer a second time, I will sure take my kid and husband with me!

Overall, I had a great time at BlogHer. I was a bit bewildered by the maze-like room arrangements in the hotel and wasn't able to locate all the fun parties. I wish my flight hadn't been delayed so I could have made it to the legendarily gorgeous SocialLuxe Lounge party, or I could have seen the President in person. I wish the wireless connection hadn't been so unpredictable so I could have blogged or tweeted along the way. I wish I owned an iPhone or a netbook so I could have easier access to the Internet. Despite all my regrets, I love my stay in Chicago. BowlHer is definitely my favorite party of all! I'm sure my next BlogHer trip will be even more exciting.

I could hardly make any positive connection between Play and Sleep until I came cross Cloud B, who carries an amazing line of toys that help children sleep. I have a super active toddler, who tends to think of sleep as a punishment and repeatedly tried to escape from bed even when he was extremely drowsy and tired. Gosh, it was so time- and energy-consuming trying to put him to sleep.

exceptionally beautiful and we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! My son exclaimed in delight when I first pulled the adorable sea turtle out of its box. It was daytime and the lighting effects weren't really visible, but my son had a great time playing with his new buddy-cuddling its body, touching its soft head and legs, and pointing at the colorful pictures on its shell. Hubby and I were really curious about how the Twilight Sea Turtle works, so as soon as it got dark enough, we pushed the buttons on the shell. The three of us were fascinated by the blue, green, and aqua starry night projected on our ceiling!!! There was also one or two smiling crescents among the stars, depending on which button we pushed. We had a blast switching between the buttons and watching the changes in our "sky". There were a lot of "wow", "ah" sounds that night.

The Twilight Sea Turtle is no ordinary nightlight. It has been proven to help children sleep easier. To be honest, I was skeptical about this claim at first. But over time its soothing effects become more evident. It didn't take long for my son to grasp how to operate the nightlight. After a few nights, he began to associate the Twilight Sea Turtle with bedtime. When I tell him it's time for bed, he'll willingly climb onto his bed, sit beside the turtle and start to play with the lights. He'll look up at the ceiling after each button push and grin with gratification. After about 15 minutes of star gazing, he'll lie down and listen to my humming or storytelling, and fall asleep after some toss-and-turns. It has significantly saved me time and hassle.

The Twilight Sea Turtle is educational too. It helps bring awareness to endangered sea animals.Pushing one of the three buttons repeatedly will highlight in turn five endangered species: the Blue Whale, California Sea Otter, Knysna Seahorse, Leatherback Turtle and Vaquita Dolphin. The attached Twilight Storybook includes an interesting Twilight Sea Turtle story, a star guide to help identify constellations and an adoption certificate.

This incredibly loveable product retails for $38.00 and can be bought either at Cloud B website or a number of toy retailers. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Conservation International.

MckLinky Blog Hop Week 4

This week MckLinky is creating a big recipe book. Here's our favorite: Nuts and Corn Medley-fast, easy, and delicious!



Prep Time: 1 minute
Cook Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:
1/2 cup pine cone seeds (amount variable based on how much you love nuts!)
1/2 bag frozen whole corn (buy store brand to save $$$!)
1/3 bag frozen mixed vegetables (ditto)
1 tsp canola oil (healthier for your heart!)
1/3 tsp sugar (adjust amount to low sugar needs)
1/4 salt (adjust amount to low sodium needs)

Directions:
1. Heat pan and add canola oil and pine cone seeds, stir until seeds turn golden (but not brownish). Place cooked seeds in a plate.
2. Add frozen corn and vegetables into the pan, stir until fully thawed.
3. Add seeds back into the pan, stir evenly.
4. Add sugar and salt into the pan, stir evenly.
5. Ready to serve!

Hubby created the recipe and I coined the name:) Hope you'll get a chance to try it.

Let's Play Review #2: Debi Derryberry's Baby Banana

Debi Derryberry, the multi-talented children's entertainer and voice-over artist, has released her new music CD "Debi Derryberry's Baby Banana" in early May. She is well known for her award-winining kid's music CDs "Very Derryberry" and "What A Way To Play". She is also the author of the children's book "Baby Banana and the Licorice Tree". Even if you have never heard Debi sing, you are probably familiar with her sweet and angelic voice, which is best known as "the voice of Jimmy Neutron" and has appeared in popular movies like "Ice Age 2" and "The Wild".

I'm very happy to have received a copy of the "Debi Derryberry's Baby Banana" CD for review. The tropically-themed CD is named after Debi's cute preschool character, Baby Banana and the songs are centered around the loving family of Baby Banana, Momma Duck and Daddy Gorrila. My general impressions is that the CD provides a great mix of everything-new and old songs, fast and slow rhythms, hip and traditional music genres, and songs and stories.

The CD includes 5 new tracks-I Wish You Could Fly With Me, Happiest Day, Oodle the Orangutan, Tropical Fruit, I'm A Chameleon, and 4 popular Debi's songs from previous recordings-Baby Banana, Scoops of Ice Cream, Freckle Face Freddie, and Slumberland. While most of the songs are great to dance to, Slumberland is a great lullaby that helps put kids to sleep. With an interesting blend of calypso, reggae, jazz and folk rock genres, the songs has brought to life Baby Banana's fantasy world of exotic animal friends and tantalizing tastes, sights and smells. The CD also includes a bonus track of Debi reading her storybook "Baby Banana and the Licorice Tree.

The "Debi Derryberry's Baby Banana" CD is intended for children aged 2-6 years old, but I think it's entertaining for younger babies and adults too. My son loves listening to the happy songs and flipping through the colorful lyrics book, although he has yet to understand their meanings. His favorite song appears to be the title song Baby Banana because every time I replayed that song, he ran closer to the CD-player and started to dance. Listening to the CD also helps me relax and cheer up. My favorites are Oodle the Orangutan and I Wish You Could Fly With Me. Overall, it's a great music CD to add to your collection. Your kids will love it!

Momfinitions

Every mom has a set of definitions that can't be looked up in Webster. ParentsConnect.com is calling all moms to help them compile their dictionary of funny Momfinitions.

Here are my top five entries:

Laptod noun.-A toddler who makes every effort to take over mommy's laptop. Tricks my little monkey loves include rapid blind typing on the keyboard, dragging the external mouse and pulling off the AC adapter.

Armplane noun.-The world's safest plane constructed with mommy's arms. This is my son's favorite personal aircraft, which gives him the thrill of flying! I, the pilot, am always rewarded with hearty giggles.

Tublet noun.-A bathtub that is accidentally yet conveniently turned into a toilet. The bathtub just came in handy when my toddler wanted to use the toilet towards the end of a warm bath. Tublet usually means an extra round of rinsing!

Peek-A-Poop noun.-A commonly used technique to detect the need for a diaper change. Whenever I'm hit by a strong and familiar odor, my first reaction will be to take a peek into my son's diaper to see if the bombs are dropped.

Finger Food noun. -Itsy bitsy chubby fingers that are self-served as a popular snack good for all occasions. "Luckily" for my son, he can always turn to his fingers when he runs out of things to chew on. He does less of it now than when he was an infant. Hopefully, his exclusive finger food will fall out of favor soon.

MckLinky Blog Hop Week 3

I'm finally able to join in the weekly MckLinky blog hop fun! The first week I missed it by one day. The second week I was on vacation and away from the computer. No more regrets for week 3, the theme of which is THREE THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ME.

#1: I don't follow deals. Despite my passion for freebies and giveaways, I've never considered myself a deal person. I admire those ladies who come up with crazy combination of coupons, deals and cashbacks at CVS, Walgreens, Target, etc. But I'm not really into the grocery game and use coupons only casually. I rarely stock up on sale items. I could have saved more for my everyday shopping but I choose to be content with what I have now.

#2: I don't wear makeup. I love testing and reviewing skin care products, but not so much about cosmetics. The truth is I don't know how to wear makeup and I seldom have the need to (being in casual settings most of the times). I'm a bit concerned about how I would look at BlogHer. Please, please don't laugh at me when you see me there;)

#3: I don't drink or smoke. This is something I'm quite proud of myself. Although it can sometimes be an obstacle to blending it at a party, I'm happy with my good health and huge money savings :-D (No offense to those of you who enjoy moments of indulgence in life.) So you can rest reassured that my blog covers no topics with age restrictions.

And now I can’t wait to share it with you. It has created quite a stir on the Internet. Be it real or fictional, the roller babies are adorable and memorable. The ad may not succeed in making me want to purchase Evian water, but it certainly did a great job making me recognize and remember the brand. Live Young--I love that!

In celebration of Independence Day, I'm bringing you a giveaway from my favorite children's shoes company: See Kai Run! Oh my, I can't remember how many See Kai Run giveaways I've entered, but I'm pretty sure the tally would be no less than 50. And here's the pair I chose for my son. My son is having great summer fun in them! His cute sandals received a lot of nice compliments from our friends, neighbors and strangers we met at restaurants and shopping malls. Every time I proudly told them that they are from See Kai Run. What surprised me is that when I asked my son to choose from 3 pairs of new shoes, he picked up See Kai Run without a moment of hesitation. Like mom, like son?!
