Shopping during Safeway National Dairy Month #SafewayDairy

Safeway celebrates the National Dairy Month with month-long deals and promotions on dairy products including milk, cheese, yogurt, whipped cream and more. It's the perfect time for dairy lovers to save big on some of their favorite brands and products. Our family consumes milk and yogurt on a daily basis. We love them not only because their great taste but also because their importance as part of a healthy balanced diet. Milk and diary products are rich in nutrients like calcium and protein, which are essential for bone and teeth health.

Milk and diary products are also important ingredients for many recipes. One of my favorite things to make with yogurt is fruit salad. It's healthy, tasty, and very easy to prepare. When we had picnic with our friends in the state park last weekend, we brought a big lunchbox of freshly made fruit salad, which was gone within minutes. It helped to quench our thirst and replenish our bodies' vitamin supply during the hot weather.

I don't really need a recipe for the fruit salad. Varied versions are made based on what fruits we have on hand. This time, I mixed up sliced strawberries, raspberries, grapes, bananas, peaches, apples, and water melon with O Organics organic low fat yogurt naturally flavored with vanilla (bought at Tom Thumb, a Safeway affiliate in our area). The salad had a prefect blend of sweet and sour flavors, as well as different textures. It tasted best after being chilled under ice. The Closer: The Complete Sixth Season on DVD & Balancing Work & Family

A constant challenge to many women is to find the right balance between work and family. In Season 6 of The Closer, Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) once again finds her work interfering with her personal life. A murder case demands her immediate attention in the middle of her big argument with her husband. With a tough case to crack around Christmas, Brenda has to take care of her visiting parents, who fall victim to a horrible robbery. I can really relate to the character as I watch Brenda struggle to juggle work and family. I can't help applauding her when she succeeds in striking a good balance.

Luckily I don't have a job as demanding and stressful as Brenda's. Being able to work at home grants me greater flexibility and more time to take care of my family. I have to admit that my balance almost always tilts in favor of family. I set aside time that is strictly dedicated to family activities and try not to let work come in between me and my family.

Starring Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer follows LAPD Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson as she leads her squad to crack high profile murder cases. As a woman in charge in a male-dominated work environment, Brenda demonstrated powerful skills for investigation and interrogation. She won respect and support from her crew with incredible charisma, confidence, and intelligence. No wonder Captain Raydor (Mary McDonnell) from the Force Investigation Division, who came to question Brenda's leadership, ended up fully convinced of her capability and recommended her for the promotion to chief of police.

What's amazing about Brenda is that she displays power without compromising her femininity. The show's success attributes a lot to Kyra's charming look and impressive acting. Unlike any stereotyped career woman, Brenda is emotional, compassionate, and has her moment of weakness. She's also a pretty woman with a great sense of fashion.

Episode 3, Season 6 "In Custody" provides an excellent example of both Brenda's tough and feminine side. She courageously stood up against the pressure to close the case without finding out the real murderer. But she could hardly hold up her tears when the painful truth behind the custody battle was finally revealed.

Tips on Seasonal Allery Relief for Kids #CleverAllergyfriendly

I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour conducted by Clever Girls Collective on behalf of Children's Claritin®. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program. 
Seasonal Allergy is a major spring-time nuisance. Allergy symptoms are especially disturbing for kids, who may suffer from sleep loss, fatigue, and even learning problems. I often wish I could trade places with my son when I hear him toss and turn in bed due to stuffed nose or intermittent coughing. He looks miserable with red, itchy and watery eyes when staying outdoors. I'm constantly on the lookout for ways to help him feel better and here are some tips that I've found most effective in providing allergy relief for my child.

• Monitor pollen level and plan outdoor activities accordingly. I check local pollen levels every day on Weather.com and try to keep my son playing indoors when the levels are high.
• Drink plenty of water. It's important to keep children hydrated regardless of whether they are allergy sufferers. Kids with allergy are particularly in need of water to help them recover from the aftermath of sneezing and coughing. Warm (not hot) water with honey really works to soothe coughs and sore throats.
• Change clothes and take a warm bath or shower after playing outside for an extended period of time. This helps to minimize exposure to allergens that might have been brought back home.
• Use a humidifier. Keeping indoor air at a safe moisture level (30%-50%) helps alleviate breathing problems. My son goes to sleep faster and sleeps better when the humidifier is on.
• Use protective bedding products and change regularly. We've using mattress protectors and pillow cases with allergy control features for a while and noticed improvements in our sleep quality. My son loves the feel of the fabric of his allergy proof pillow case.
