Sam Says: You Are Born to Shine is a cheerful and empowering rhyming picture book about self-expression and self-consciousness. On the first day at her new school, third-grader Sam surprises her classmates not only with her bright-colored outfits, but also by dancing happily during recess. She even brings her own boom box! The stares and unfriendly comments can't stop her. As Sam continues to do what she loves day after day, more and more students start to wear bold colors and prints to school. Soon enough, Sam's recess solo turns into a dance party for all.

Following Sam's transition from a loner to a leader, the story inspires us to unleash and embrace our unique selves, and to take joy in following our hearts. Sam is such a confident and fearless girl, not afraid to be judged or isolated. Her courage and persistance, along with her mom's wise words, may motivate young readers to overcome peer pressure and to become a creative trendsetter instead of a passive follower. These positive messages get visually reinforced through the book's quirky and expressive illustrations, which brilliantly use color contrasts to represent Sam's unneglectable influence and the gradual, delightful changes she brings about.

About the Author:

Sam Hirschmann is the creator and writer of Sam Says: You Are Born to Shine, and is a true dancer of life. After playing Division I volleyball and working on the trading floor in New York City, she decided to take an acting class, which Sam thanks for sparking her journey into seeing life in color.

She left finance to study acting at the William Esper Studio, which took her down the path of finding her true self and how to authentically let her light shine in every situation. While pursuing acting, Sam began teaching Breathwork classes and sharing her insight on social media in hopes of inspiring others to find their joy within and to let their inner light shine.
