The Boy and His Higher Self and My First Day of School Virtual Tour: Review & Giveaway

Are you fully aware of the power of your inner voice? Wondering how it may help you navigate challenging situations like the first day of school? Check out The Boy and His Higher Self and My First Day of School, the first two books in the picture book series written by Ricardo Santa Cruz and illustrated by Yuko Kondo. Enter to win both books for your little one!

My Review:

Both written in rhyme and illustrated with vibrant colors, The Boy and His Higher Self and My First Day of School tell heartwarming, empowering tales about inner strength, courage, confidence, compassion, emotional health, positive thinking, and the ripple effect of kindness.

The Boy and His Higher Self follows the self-discovery journey of a young boy as he meets and converses with his higher self, the inner voice that guides him with love, light and wisdom. The boy gets equipped with the tools to help him deal with fear, anxiety and insecurity. He learns to get connected with his higher self when he needs guidance and clarity, and follow his heart to make the right choice.

In My First Day of School, the boy reaches out to his higher self for advice as he worries about making good friends and being liked by other kids at school. He's instructed to stay true to his authentic self, and to radiate positivity by approaching kids who also experience anxiety about acceptance and imperfection. He realizes that honesty, compassion and communication help build the foundation of a meaningful friendship.

Through heartfelt conversations using simple rhyming words, imaginative, playful pictures, and lovable, relatable characters, the first book introduces the abstract spiritual concept of one's higher self in a fun and engaging way, while the second book provides a concrete example of how the inner voice can help one overcome real-life challenges with courage, confidence and calmness. Together, the stories encourage everyone to explore their full potential, conduct constructive self-talk, achieve inner peace through meditation, seek the deeper meaning of life, and go further to spread kindness and become a positive influence on others.

Lyrically written and creatively illustrated, The Boy and His Higher Self and My First Day of School are accessible and enjoyable reads with significant and practical life lessons. I look forward to finding out what's coming next in this one-of-a-kind series.

Simon the Scared Rottweiler Virtual Tour: Review and Prize Pack Giveaway

Have you wondered what tools are available to help young children deal with anxiety? See what has worked for Simon the Scared Rottweiler, the title character from child psychologist Dr. Nicole Kluemper's picture book. Enter to win a paperback copy, along with a cozy blanket and a $50 Amazon gift card!

My Review:

Based on Dr. Kluemper's professional experience and her lovely furry baby, Simon the Scared Rottweiler tells a therapeutic tale suggesting simple and effective anxiety coping skills for young kids.

Tough-looking Rottweiler Simon shares a horrible school day filled with things that scare him, starting from a nightmare and his brother jumping out from under the bed in a clown mask, to bullies at school and ghost stories told by the kids at his friend Kevin's sleepover party. That's too much for Simon to handle in one day! Just as he's about to take flight from all the scary stuff, Kevin's older sister Angie comes to his rescue with a couple of tricks that have helped her overcome anxiety.

Adopting Simon's first-person perspective, the story shows closely what he goes through, how he feels, and the impact of anxiety on his behavior. Most of the scary scenarios are highly relatable for school-aged kids, making it easy for them to empathize with the poor puppy. The candid conversation between Simon and Angie reassures young readers that they are not alone for getting anxious from time to time and that there are fun ways to cope with anxiety in the comfort of their homes. The "thought bottle" sounds particularly appealing to glitter-lovers. Easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions are provided to help readers make their very own thought bottles. The book's back matter also teaches about belly breathing and includes useful resources regarding child anxiety and mental health.

By reading Simon's story, young children are encouraged to seek help from family and friends about things that bother them, instead of keeping all the fear and anxiety to themselves. In addition, they may learn not to judge someone merely by their look. Feeling scared is not necessarily a sign of weakness. Anxiety can be managed through practice, perseverance, positive thinking and professional assistance.

Colorful and comforting, Simon the Scared Rottweiler makes a great conversation starter as well as a handy toolkit for kids and parents to get better prepared for the common challenge of anxiety.

About the Book:

Ages: 4–8 | 34 Pages
Publisher: Nicole S Kluemper (2026) | ISBN: 979-8218884802

But the story doesn't end with simply exposing the problems. It further explores effective and executable solutions, leaving us with hope for helping improve the environment.

A unique educational feature of the book is the "Captain Polo's Climate Change Classroom" located in the back matter, where readers get more details and explanations about the words highlighted in blue in the main text. The illustrated glossary encourages curious minds to dig deeper into their interested topics while achieving a thorough understanding of what happens in the story. My Review:

Based on the author's real-life experience, Mrs. Gourd weaves a hilarious, heartfelt tale about bedtime routine, problem-solving, the joy of reading, and creative parenting.

The story starts with three young children running around the house with their furry friends when it's time to settle in bed. Their mom tries in vain to calm them down and disappears in despair. A lady in red with a booming British voice, known as Mrs. Gourd, shows up to take over bedtime. She works magic with her amusing accent and the stories she reads.

Hop's Tales: The Kind Bunny Virtual Tour: Review & Giveaway

Children are often taught about kindness without any clue about how to respond to an unkind comment that may leave a lasting scar on their heart. Mother and author Evelina Ruimy addresses this important issue in her new book Hop's Tales: The Kind Bunny. Learn more about the sweet story and enter to win a hardcover copy!

My Review:

Thoughtfully written and delightfully illustrated, Hop's Tales: The Kind Bunny is a heartwarming rhyming picture book with gentle messages about kindness, empathy, friendship, confidence and self-love.

Hop is a happy bunny who loves to learn at school in the company of his friends. But he stops doing what he loves after being told by a tough-looking pup named Ruff that he is not cool for liking school. Noticing the change in his behavior and mood, Hop's mom asks him why and suggests how to hop over hurtful words and return to his normal self.

Through adorable animal characters and relatable school scenarios, the story demonstrates the power of kindness while promoting self-love as the starting point for being kind to others. It makes young children aware that a random rude remark could cast a shadow on one's life whereas kind words and acts can light up one's day. Happiness lies in staying true to oneself and not being defined by someone else's opinion. Words are a reflection of the person who speaks, not the one being spoken to. Hop's experience exemplifies how to say NO to unkindness in a firm and polite way and how to exert a positive influence on others by spreading kindness. It also encourages young readers to follow their heart and pursue what they love.

The way Hop's mom communicates with Hop and guides him through the emotional challenge has great implications for parents and caregivers, who should take care to detect early signs of unusual changes in a child's behavior, find out the underlying cause, validate their feelings, and provide timely advice to help them get back on track.

Using soft hues and natural settings, the book's watercolor paintings charm young readers with cute little animals and cheerful scenes of friends learning and playing together. Through vivid facial expressions and body language, the illustrations well capture the characters' emotional changes, along with the joy of learning and being kind.

Engaging and uplifting, Hop's Tales: The Kind Bunny makes an excellent choice for your next parent-child reading session. It enhances social-emotional learning through example and empathy.

About the Book:

Ages 4–8 | 38 Pages
Publisher: Mascot Kids (2026) | ISBN: 979-8-89138-745-4

Through the observations of a little girl perched up high on her father's shoulders, the book charms young readers with a variety of fun activities that can make a beach day memorable, such as flying kites, building sandcastles, discovering sea creatures, or simply taking a stroll like the father-daughter duo in the story. Parents who read together with their children may get inspiration for how to plan their next beachside outing.

While the unique over-the-shoulder angle gives the little girl a fresh view of the world around her, the very presence of her dad makes all the difference for her experience. Her eye-opening ride is only made possible by the security and support Daddy provides. The precious bond between the father and the daughter can be seen and felt through the sunny smiles on their faces. Lively and expressive, the book's artwork not only beautifully represents the boisterous beach scenes as described in the narrative, but also enriches them with imaginative details, showcasing various ways to enjoy a beach day.

Lyrically written and artfully illustrated, Tall as the Sun makes a delightful read on and around Father's Day, in celebration of the indispensable role a father plays in his daughter's life.

My Review:

Fast-paced and action-packed, Muppit Boy and the Allergies of Evil stands out as a hilarious and heartful middle grade fiction that explores the significance of friendship, courage and emotional intelligence, along with the impact of social media on self-esteem, body image and privacy.

Meet the Muppit Boy detective agency, composed of three middle school students Mo, Kash and Barn. Small in stature, Mo has a brain that works like a video recorder. Tall and slim, Kash is a sharp girl good at martial arts. Chubby and clumsy, Barn offers help in unexpected ways. A mysterious break-in at their school leads them into the dangerous discovery of an evil scheme of a mad scientist seeking power and wealth. Almost getting killed by a roaring chainsaw is just the beginning.

Told from Mo's perspective, the story treats curious minds to a delicious blend of humor, mystery, suspense and adventure. By following Mo's personal growth journey from an easy target of bullying and mockery to a superhero, readers get to experience first-hand his struggle with emotional control and unwanted internet fame, his search for self-worth, and his bittersweet feelings about his new identity. Mo's transformation may inspire them to stand up against bullies, stay calm in the face of danger, solve problems creatively, and learn to embrace their own special talents while adapting to major life changes.

The friendship of the quirky trio shines prominently throughout the story. It suggests what true friendship means and how trust, support and empathy serve as cornerstones of a solid relationship. Meanwhile, the touching bond between Mo and his Big Brother mentor Ari prompts us to see and understand family beyond biology.

Highly entertaining and engaging, Muppit Boy and the Allergies of Evil makes an exciting addition to the summer reading list of anyone who loves mystery, adventure, superhero or science fiction. Looking forward to more books in the series!

AN INTERNET JOKE. AN EVIL GENIUS. A HERO IS BORN.

Gifted with a brain that works like a video recorder, twelve-year-old aspiring detective Elmo Fitzroy — famous on YouTube, thanks to his mother, as “Muppit Boy” because of really humiliating videos — becomes embroiled in a world-domination plot hatched by an evil scientist out to control humanity with deadly allergies.

Mo's life plan is simple: ditch his dweeby childhood alter ego and fly under the radar to survive middle school. It backfires big time when he helps his Big Brother mentor — a police detective — investigate an old woman in a clown mask who robs people of their hearing aids.

Little does he realize that chasing clues with friends Barney Kettlewick and Kashvi Jindal will lead to a battle with ugly shoes, pursuit by chainsaw-wielding maniacs, an embarrassingly public rescue by a California condor, a meeting with Homeland Security, and his ADHD soaring into overdrive.

The kid who's always been a joke must somehow become a hero to save his family, friends, and, well, the whole world.

Ripples Virtual Tour: Review and Prize Pack Giveaway

Earth Day may be over, but caring for our beloved planet isn't. Ripples, new picture book from muralist Katie Yamasaki, reminds us of our reponsiblity for the environment and how care can be manifested through small, everyday actions. Enter to win a hardcover copy and a set of five other picture books from the author!

My Review:

Written in short, playful sentences accompanied by vibrant, scenic paintings, Ripples tells a calming, uplifting tale about living in harmony with nature, caring for loved ones and the environment, and the power of community spirit and collective action.

A cheerful, compassionate young girl goes on a river rafting trip with her aunt. As they paddle down the river, they pass groups of friends enjoying a picnic, tending wounds, or holding a birthday party on the banks. The trip isn't just for fun though. It's for a mission too challenging for two. Luckily, their friends show up to support their cleanup efforts. Many hands make light work!

Told from a child's perspective, the story keeps young readers engaged with evocative sensory descriptions and metaphors. For instance, "Wet earth smells like mud pies from Mother Earth's bakery." "As we curve around a bend, the singalong notes of 'Happy Birthday' float past, mixing with birdsong high above and our own voices, splashing in the river." Readers get to see, smell, hear and feel what the narrator is excited to share. The contrast between the beautiful view along the river and the trash floating around on open water alerts us to the urgency and severity of the issue, prompting us to take action and protect our environment.

Alongside the engaging narrative, the book's stunning artwork celebrates the serene beauty of nature, the peaceful coexistence of wildlife and human beings, and the togetherness of a close-knit community, in which everyone knows, helps and cares about one another. The inclusion of adorable wild animals in the pictures, especially babies in the care of their mothers, not only corresponds neatly to the themes of the story, but also charms young readers, deepens their love for nature and awakens their sense of responsibility for the world they live in.

Poetic and picturesque, Ripples makes the perfect pick for Earth Month and beyond. It's a book that activates your senses, warms your heart, and calls for your action.

Hope Rode: The Promise of the Packhorse Librarians Virtual Tour: Review and Prize Pack Giveaway

Have you heard of the Packhorse librarians, who delivered books to rural families on horseback in the depths of the Great Depression? Learn all about them in Hope Rode: The Promise of the Packhorse Librarians by award-winning author Lauren H. Kerstein. Enter to win a signed copy, a swag pack, and a $30 bookstore gift card of choice!

My Review:

Drawing on extensive research, Hope Rode provides a poetic recount of the little-known history of the Packhorse librarians, honoring the unsung heroes who impacted the lives of tens of thousands of Kentuckians in rural and remote areas during dark times.

An alarming percentage of rural population in Kentucky remained illiterate in 1930s due to lack of access to public libraries. The Packhorse Library project was launched to address the issue by recruiting librarians willing to bring books to families with no public library in their neighborhood. A good number of courageous women joined the mission and became known as Packhorse librarians. Delivering books on horseback was no easy task. From harsh weather and road conditions to distrust and resistance of the farmers, so many dangers and obstacles were lurking around. But the smiling faces of young children yearning for learning made all their endeavors worthwhile.

Beautifully written and illustrated, the book highlights the intimidating challenges Packhorse librarians had to overcome in order to make more books available to rural residents. It applauds the dedication, determination, perseverance and resilience of the beloved book ladies. They delivered not only books, but also knowledge, vision, care, job opportunity, the joy of reading, and so much more... What they did was truly amazing and admirable!

The story ends with the Author's Note, detailing more facts and background information about the Packhorse librarians, including precious photos, some of which get artistically represented in the illustrations. Apart from complementing the narrative with vivid visuals, the paintings amplify the stunning beauty of rural landscapes, reflecting the book's theme with beams of hope.

Inspiring and informative, Hope Rode makes us aware of the great deeds of Packhorse librarians while fueling our passion for reading and urging us to treasure the resources at our disposal today.

About the Book:

Ages: 4+ | 48 Pages
Publisher: Union Square Kids (2025) | ISBN-13: 978-1454948483

An empowering ode to the brave librarians from Kentucky.

Following the Great Depression, literacy rates in the country had dwindled, and education and opportunities were harder to come by, especially in areas like rural Appalachia. But still, there was a dream: a vision of a nation in which reading was accessible to all—even those in the most remote places.

The Packhorse Library project of the 1930s and 1940s called upon Kentucky women to make that vision a reality and rise to the difficult and demanding job of delivering books on horseback. The Packhorse librarians were brave, steadfast, and resilient. For years, the women endured rough terrain, harsh conditions, and exhaustion. And with each book delivered and reading lesson taught, the librarians ushered in a new era for Kentuckians.

With uplifting prose by Lauren H. Kerstein and lush, hand-painted art from Becca Stadtlander, Hope Rode tells the true story of the strength, courage, and conviction of the Packhorse librarians.
