Now living in a state known for its high gas prices, it's more important than ever for our family to save at the pump. That's why we love Safeway's Reward Points Program, which helps us save at least 10 cents per gallon when we shop for groceries each week at Vons, a Safeway affiliate in our area.
How it works: simple and straightforward!
*Every $1 spent on groceries and pharmacy items = 1 point
*Every $1 spent on qualifying gift cards = 4 points
Every 100 points gives you 10 cents off per gallon for a single fill-up at a Chevron, Texaco or Safeway gas station.
*100 points = 10¢ per gallon Reward
*200 points = 20¢ per gallon Reward
*500 points = 50¢ per gallon Reward
*1000 points = $1 per gallon Reward
That's right. You get rewarded for buying things you need on an everyday basis and even when you get a prescription filled! The more you shop at Safeway, the more you save on gas purchases! To start saving, the only thing you need is to sign up for a Safeway Club card. It's totally free. And you don't have to take the card with you if you link your card to your phone number!
Extra, Extra!
What's better? You can quadruple your reward points when you buy gift cards at Safeway. Think gift cards are only for the holiday season? Think again! Gift cards can be used like cash at a department store, a restaurant or an online retailer that you frequent. For example, you will earn 200 points for a $50 gift card to Chili's. Enjoy your meals at Chili's and save 20 cents per gallon at the pump! Find a participating gas station here.
Safeway also runs periodic promotions that allow club members to earn extra reward points. During a promotion period, you can get 200 bonus points for spending just $50 in a single transaction. That's on top of the points you would normally earn from your purchases!

Safeway celebrates the National Dairy Month with month-long deals and promotions on dairy products including milk, cheese, yogurt, whipped cream and more. It's the perfect time for dairy lovers to save big on some of their favorite brands and products. Our family consumes milk and yogurt on a daily basis. We love them not only because their great taste but also because their importance as part of a healthy balanced diet. Milk and diary products are rich in nutrients like calcium and protein, which are essential for bone and teeth health.
Milk and diary products are also important ingredients for many recipes. One of my favorite things to make with yogurt is fruit salad. It's healthy, tasty, and very easy to prepare. When we had picnic with our friends in the state park last weekend, we brought a big lunchbox of freshly made fruit salad, which was gone within minutes. It helped to quench our thirst and replenish our bodies' vitamin supply during the hot weather.
I don't really need a recipe for the fruit salad. Varied versions are made based on what fruits we have on hand. This time, I mixed up sliced strawberries, raspberries, grapes, bananas, peaches, apples, and water melon with O Organics organic low fat yogurt naturally flavored with vanilla (bought at Tom Thumb, a Safeway affiliate in our area). The salad had a prefect blend of sweet and sour flavors, as well as different textures. It tasted best after being chilled under ice. You may watch the ThisMoment slide show embedded below for details about my shopping trip and how the salad turned out.

Looney Tunes Eating Right Kids Food Review

I introduced to you earlier about Eating Right Kids products newly launched by Safeway and Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Did you have a chance to try them? Luckily, Team Mom sent me a cute Eating Right Kids lunch bag for review and I'd love to share my experience with you.
A few recaps of what makes this new product line unique. The Eating Right Kids line features beloved Looney Tunes characters and over 60 items across 18 categories including breakfast foods, produce, portable meals, dairy, snacks, beverages and frozen entrees. The food and beverages are not only tasty, but nutritious, formulated to standards based on the most recent dietary recommendations and regulations from several federal and state agencies.
Eating Right Kids is an offshoot of Safeway's Eating Right line for adults, which we buy quite often, especially the salad and cereals. Warner Bros. has in fact taken the extra step of clearing retail shelves of the Looney Tunes themed foods that fail to meet a "better-for-you" standard. The new line is sold exclusively at more than 1700 Safeway locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Inside the lunch tote featuring Bugs Bunny, we found a canned pasta (Whole Wheat Macaroni & Beef in Tomato Sauce), a mixed fruit cup, a Milk Chocolate Coating Chewy Bar, and a bottle of 100% apple juice. Overall, we like the mix of products and the colorful packaging. My favorite is the chewy bar. It's very delicious and provides a good source of calcium and fiber. I like the microwaveable packing of the pasta. It's convenient to use and has the right portion size for kids. But I do think the flavor we tried is a bit too strong and salty by my standards. Remember that I have a strong preference for low-sodium food.
If you're on the lookout for easy to make snacks and meals for your kids, the Eating Right Kids line is definitely worth trying because besides its convenience features, it unites great taste and nutrition. And the Looney Tunes characters will certainly add fun to kids mealtime.
Thanks a lot to Team Mom for this great review opportunity!

Looney Tunes Eating Right Kids Program Part I

Warner Bros. Consumer Products has teamed up with Safeway to create the Eating Right Kids Food Line featuring Looney Tunes characters. For the first time ever, such well-known Looney Tunes characters as Bugs Bunny, Tweety, Taz, Wile E. Coyote, and Daffy Duck, serve as mother’s helpers to find nutritious food and beverage items for their kids that taste great. The new line consists of 60 items across 18 categories including breakfast foods, produce, portable meals, dairy, snacks, beverages and frozen entrees. It is available at more than 1700 Safeway locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The Looney Tunes Eating Right Kids Program is being featured on Momlogic.com, along with an Eating Right blog from nutritionist Haylie Pomroy, who offers healthy recipes, expert tips and Looney Tunes Eating Right product recommendations to help moms save prep time when creating healthy menus and school lunches.
As a mom advocate for the Eating Right Kids initiative, I would like to invite you to join in the conversation about healthy eating habits. We'll have a different topic each week for five consecutive weeks. By weighing in each weak, you will be entered to win a gift basket filled with $100 worth of Looney Tunes themed products (more details to follow)!
Question of the Week: What personal challenges do you face daily to make sure your family is eating healthy?
For me, the biggest challenge is to introduce more variety into a healthy diet. By variety, I mean both different types of food and different ways to cook the same food. Unlike many kids who refuse to try new food, my son loves novelty and shows great enthusiasm for something new. But the problem is that he loses interest in the "new" food fairly quickly and keeps asking for a change. I often find myself out of ideas of what to cook for him. Meanwhile, I'm reluctant to expose him to the fancy world of junk food.
It's also quite a challenge to unite flavor with nutrition. I've been trying hard to maintain a low-sugar and low-sodium diet for my family. But the food I cook sometimes turned out to be too bland in taste. While flavor doesn't have to come in conflict with nutrition, I'm concerned that flavorful food tend to have more salt, sugar or other ingredients that might pose health hazard in the long run.
I look forward to reading about your personal challenges and how you cope with them.
Haylie Pomroy is currently taking reader questions about nutrition. Please feel free to email your questions to eatingright@wb.com by Sept 14th.
Momlogic is giving away the same Looney Tunes Eating Right Gift Basket that I'm going to give away here. Be sure to enter now for an extra chance to win!
