My Review:

Inspired by the Dude. Be Nice organization, which aims to bring good vibes to local communities by honoring everyday heroes, Dude. Be Nice tells an amusing and uplifting tale about kindness, friendship, and team work.

Dude is a nice bear, who has good manners and a good heart. One morning he wants to be extra nice, with a long list of actions planned, such as picking pesky lint, freeing some bees and watering the weeds?! Dude feels good about being nice until his well-meaning efforts end up creating trouble for his friends and neighbors. What can he do to make things right?

With humor and imagination, the story celebrates voluntary acts of kindness while teaching about how and when to offer help. One important tip is to ask if the person really needs help instead of assuming you know what the best thing to do is. As shown in the chaos Dude unintentionally causes, unwanted help tends to do more harm than good. Being helpful involves listening carefully and empathetically to the person who might need help and respecting their wishes. Despite his failed attempts to help others, Dude sets a good example for young readers by asking for help politely and making amends after realizing his mistakes. Together with his loving friends, Dude shows us the joy of spreading kindness and completing a challenging task collaboratively.

The book brings readers closer to its funny and adorable animal characters through playful, colorful and zestful illustrations. They capture the comedic contrasts between Dude's good intentions and the messy outcomes, as well as the lovely bond between Dude and his sidekick Fizz.

Hilarious and heart-warming, Dude. Be Nice makes a delightful addition to any child's library by promoting kindness, positivity and cooperation through giggles and laughter.

Meet Dude, the nicest Dude in town! Or so he thinks . . .

One day, Dude decides that he wants to do nice things for his friends and neighbors all day long. But Dude isn’t exactly attentive and tends to forget the most crucial part of helping people: asking first. So when Dude unravels a sweater, frees some dogs, and ruins an ice cream social, he needs to reckon with his own niceness: is it really nice if he wasn’t that helpful? Can Dude and his best friend Fizz save the day before Dude makes too big of a mess?

With hilarious text from Sarah Scheerger and gorgeous illustrations by debut children’s book artist Alex MacNaughton, Dude. Be Nice is a tale of good intentions and not-so-good outcomes, sure to make readers giggle along the way.
