My Review:

Inspired by the author's own child, Famous Seaweed Soup is a colorful and cheerful book highlighting the fun of free play in nature. On a family beach day, Sara busies herself with cooking her famous seaweed soup featuring all sorts of goodies hidden along the seashore. She would really like some help with the preparation, but everyone else in the family is fully occupied too, including her baby sister Hallie. Well, Sara decides that nothing will stop her from getting the job done and done well!

Simple and sweet, Sara's story shows the joy of exploring nature through fascinating sea treasures, such as shells, snails, seaweed, seagull feather and many more. It also inspires young readers to get creative, to enjoy independence, and to follow through.

The use of repetition in storytelling makes the soup-making steps easier to follow and encourages the little ones to read along. The realistic and vivid illustrations provide playful details not covered in the text and help bring the characters to life. Our favorites are the babbling baby and the curious, friendly seagull who observes Sara's every move and who is eager to savor the soup.
