The Leaf and the Tree Blog Tour: Review & Giveaway

While we find it intuitive to view the leaves as an integral part of a tree, the connection may not seem so obvious if we were to take the point of view of the leaves. Get inspired by Bruce Nemovitz's rhyming picture book The Leaf and the Tree and enter to win 1 of 3 signed copies!

My Review:

The Leaf and the Tree is an enlightening and thought-provoking book that combines poetic storytelling, magnificent artwork and compelling messages. Each leaf on the giant old tree in the forest believes that it relies solely on itself to get sufficient air, water, and sunlight. How they miraculously survive a drought and live through the change of seasons with varying colors remains a puzzle until one of the leaves finally falls onto the ground and meets one of the roots. Only then does he realize how much he owes his life and beauty to other parts of the tree, as well as other elements of nature. The leaf gains insight and wisdom, and so do the readers of this marvelous book.

Using vibrant colors and vivid facial expressions, the illustrations punctuate the charm of natural landscape and the harmonious relationship between plants and forest animals. Young readers may learn about the life cycle of leaves and how different parts of the tree work together to survive different weather conditions. The book goes further to teach about the unity of the world, how everything and everyone are interconnected and interdependent as part of a bigger picture. Individual members of the society are encouraged to see themselves as part of a team and support one another for the common good. This enjoyable read is great for cultivating children's love and appreciation for what nature has to offer.
