My Review:

Merry Christmas, Eve is a cheerful and thought-provoking story about a girl Elf named Eve in search of the Christmas Spirit. Preoccupied with getting the gift list ready for children around the world, Santa puts the Head Elf in charge of everything in the North Pole. A control freak obossessed with becoming number one, the Head Elf forces the reindeers to fly only in straight lines, and forbids the elves from doing anything but working, with zero tolerance for dissent. Believing that Christmas should be about family and friends having fun together, Eve leads a revolution against the autocratic Head Elf and rescues the Christmas Spirit from its confinement, along with all the spirits awaiting to be set free.

With playful rhymes and humorous illustrations, this picture book brings to life an adorable heroine, who is smart, courageous, purposeful and persevered. The use of festive colors like red, green, and gold instantly puts the reader in the mood for Christmas celebration, while the big, expressive eyes of Eve keep you engaged in her unusual adventure.

On the one hand, the story shows the little ones that togetherness and fun are what make Christmas truly meaningful and enjoyable; on the other, it inspires youngsters to question or even stand up against authority when there is good reason to believe that they have done something wrong. Further, it urges older readers to think about what really matters in life. It is important to keep in mind that all the traditions we follow and all the duties we perform are meant to bring joy and happiness to ourselves and our loved ones.

“The day before Christmas is a very special day,
That never had its own name.
But that all changed when one special elf,
Rose to glory and fame.
Eve was an elf with such get up and go,
She worked hard and loved to play.
But the Head Elf ran Christmas with an iron fist,
And this was what he had to say…”
