My Review:

Itty Bitty Betty and the Cookies tells a truly sweet story, both literally and figuratively, about a scenario that may sound very familiar to most children and their parents. Itty Bitty Betty craves cookies for snack, so she raids the kitchen foraging for them while mom isn't looking. She even recruits the kitty as her partner in crime and is smart enough to use a ladder to reach for the cookies up and far on the shelf. Falling off the ladder hurts but doesn't halt her. Giving up is not an option until she gets caught in action. Will she get what she wants after all?

The rhyming text and expressive illustrations make the characters lively and the story funny. Young readers may easily identify themselves with Betty and realize how silly and stubborn they can get at times. The book teaches about the proper way to make a reasonable request, encouraging kids to communicate their needs with their parents instead of resorting to potentially dangerous behavior behind their backs. Meanwhile, it reminds parents to reassure their children of how much they are being loved and cared for while helping them correct a mistake. I like this book as a read-aloud as well as a conversation starter for topics that matter to us all in everyday life.
