My Friend Moose’r McDan Blog Tour: Review & Prize Pack Giveaway

Do you have a favorite book to read with your little one around the holidays? If you are looking for something to add to your holiday reading list this year, I'd highly recommend My Friend Moose’r McDan, a cute little picture book written by Sky Danley and a proud winner of the prestigious Moonbeam Children's Book Award!

My Review:
My Friend Moose’r McDan is a simple yet heart-warming story about a giant, blue moose named McDan, who is always wearing a big smile and ready to make new friends. His friendliness has the power to stop violence and transform his worst predator into a loving playmate!

The book features short, easy-to-understand sentences prefect for young readers, along with neat, colorful illustrations that enrich the story with interesting details. My favorite picture in the book is the one with the bear's gun down on the ground surrounded by beautiful wild flowers.

The story delivers a compelling and thought-provoking message against gun violence, while it promotes friendship, conservation and harmony with nature. I love that the book ends with a question, or rather, an invitation for the reader to extend the story by becoming McDan's next friend. Grab your child a copy of this lovely book and it'll likely become a new favorite for the holiday season and beyond!

About the Book

My Friend Moose’r McDan
Written by Sky Danley
Illustrated by Alli Coate

An aggressive hunter bear meets a gentle moose who is looking for a new friend. The moose is so friendly that the bear decides to drop his gun and stop hunting altogether. Instead, the bear learns that it’s more fun to just hang out with a new friend, playing games and enjoying nature. However, after the fall colors change, it’s time for the bear to go back home. The gentle moose is sad because he lost his play friend, so he is again looking for a new one. He invites whoever is reading the book to become his new friend.

About the Author:

Sky Danley was born in the ordinary town of Peoria, Illinois -- ordinary because Hollywood producers famously ask, but how will it play in Peoria? Raised in the midwest, Sky attended Purdue University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. After completing a NASA contract for computer modeling of jet engine air flow, Sky entered and served as a commissioned officer in the United States military, where he earned his wings as a USAF Pilot. After the Air Force, Sky flew as a Captain for the legendary Trans World Airlines (TWA), an airline once owned by the famed Howard Hughes, whose Hollywood connections forever christened TWA, The Airline of the Stars. Sky, however, was drawn back into computer modeling, but instead of modeling air flow, this time he started modeling visual effects for the film industry, and shortly thereafter, became particularly interested in using computer modeling to visually convey stories. Following this new story interest, Sky enrolled at Harvard University, earning a Master's Degree in Film and Studio Arts, writing his thesis at The Walt Disney Studio, where he documented and catalogued the creation and practices of Walt Disney s original story department, which emphasized the visual over dialogue. Sky continues this story interest today, currently running a media production company specializing in visual story development, with a particular interest in stories that encourage today's youth to let their dreams soar...
