Dunkin' Donuts Coffee Review and Giveaway

~~The giveaway is now CLOSED~~
I'm not a coffee addict, but I drink coffee when I need a quick energy boost, a change of pace in life, or simply something flavorful to sip on. When I'm not pressed by time, I prefer to brew my own coffee at home, which is not only economical but also entertaining. You don't really need a fancy coffee-maker or expensive coffee beans to make great coffee.

As a Mom Bloggers Club reviewer, I recently received three bags of Dunkin' Donuts Coffee for review, each in a different flavor: Cinnamon Spice, Hazelnut, and French Vanilla.

From my experience, Dunkin' Donuts Ground Coffee is marked by convenience, quality, and variety. The coffee is very easy to brew and store. It's widely available at major grocery stores like, Kroger, Safeway, Target and Walmart. The freshly brewed coffee has a smooth texture and rich taste. Dunkin' Donuts offers a nice variety of coffee blends. Besides the original and flavored coffee, you may also choose the Decaf, Seasonal Flavors, or other specialty blends.

Among the flavors I tried, my favorite is Hazelnut, followed by Cinnamon Spice. Currently all the flavors are artificial. I wish Dunkin' Donuts would consider producing naturally flavored coffee as well. That'll sure attract more health-conscious coffee lovers.

Ten Great Uses for Vaseline Petroleum Jelly

Did you know that Vaseline Petroleum Jelly has been with us for almost one century and a half? It has been one of the few "must-haves" in my family since I was a little girl. Created by a blend of mineral oils, paraffin and microcrystalline waxes, Vaseline Petroleum Jelly effectively moisturizes and protects dry skin. It's fragrance- and alcohol free, and therefore non-irritating and safe to use for sensitive skin.

To celebrate its 140th anniversary, Vaseline Petroleum Jelly has teamed up with TwitterMoms for a new blogging program, which aims to gather 140 great uses for Vaseline from mommy bloggers. There are, of course, chances to win prizes for those who contribute to the conversation. The first 50 qualified participants will each receive a $25 Drugstore.com gift card!

Now let me tell you about my favorite ways to use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly

1. Hand Cream
People with dry skin, like myself, is particularly in need of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to protect their hands from the effects of harsh weather or exposure to irritants. Simply apply some each time after you wash your hands and it will keep your hands moisturized for hours. It's important to take Vaseline Petroleum Jelly with you during winter.

2. Foot Cream
Vaseline Petroleum Jelly can heal not only dry hands, but also dry feet. It's a great remedy for chapped heels. Keep applying it to your feet after shower or bath and you will see gradual change to your skin condition. It will help soften your skin and restore your skin's ability to build up moisture naturally.

3. Lip Balm
Vaseline Petroleum Jelly works great for chapped lips. You can use it alone or together with your favorite lipstick. Your lips will stay soft and moisturized, with some desirable glowing effects.

4. Diaper Rash Ointment
Would you like your baby to stop being bothered by diaper rash? Vaseline Petroleum Jelly can help! Applying a tiny amount after each diaper change helps prevent diaper rash from recurring.

5. Bleeding Stopper
Your nose may bleed when it gets too dry inside. If that has happened to you before, it's good idea to apply a thin layer of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly inside your nose on a chilly day, to prevent your nose from bleeding. Vaseline can also help stop bleeding when it happens. It's a handy bleed stopper for minor cuts as well.

6. Runny Nose Protector
It's common to have a red nose when you're suffering from a bad cold and a stuffy runny nose. Applying some Vaseline Petroleum Jelly along the edge of your nostrils will protect your nose from getting miserably red due to frequent blowing.

7. Pain Reliever
If you've got some minor burns on your skin, you may use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly for temporary pain relief. But please remember to cool down any fresh burns with running water before applying Vaseline, because trapping heat inside would actually worsen burns.

8. Stain Remover
Because of the chemical properties of its ingredients, Vaseline Petroleum Jelly is capable of removing stains from furniture. It's great for spot cleaning as well as polishing wooden furniture.

9. Rust Preventer
Vaseline Petroleum Jelly also helps protect corrosion-prone machinery in and outside your home. Coat corrosion-prone items with Vaseline before storage will prevent them from getting rusty.

10. Lubricant
Last but not least, Vaseline Petroleum Jelly is a highly versatile lubricant. It may help your baby get a smooth rectal temperature reading, help you take better care of your car, help you and your partner spice things up in the bedroom, help those suffering from hemorrhoids have a less painful visit to the restroom...just to name a few.

Are you now convinced that Vaseline would come in handy in many aspects of your life? The magic jar of jelly costs only a few bucks, with a size so easy to fit in your pocket. It's probably the most affordable AND most useful skin care product you could ever get! If you love Vaseline as much as I do, feel free to shout it out loud. Don't forget to share your creative use of Vaseline and help us complet the list of 140.

Disclosure: I wrote this blog post while participating in the TwitterMoms and Vaseline blogging program, making me eligible to get a $25 gift card. For more information on how you can participate, click here.

Shutterfly Holiday Card Collection

The holiday season is drawing really close. Shutterfly, well-known for its digital photo printing service, has got a new collection of holiday cards in store for you. For me,  a great holiday card needs to have a colorful, cheerful design reflective of the holiday theme. Personalized features would be a big plus. Shutterfly is a  perfect place to shop for my ideal card as it not only offers hundreds of creative designs, but also gives you the ability to personalize your card with your own message and photos. You can easily preview your unique card before ordering it for the recipient.

You may find a huge collection of highly affordable Thanksgiving cards and Christmas cards at Shutterfly. Shipping is free on orders $30+ with promo code SHIP30. You'll automatically receive 20% off all the holiday cards if you place an order by October 27, 2010. The more your order, the less you have to pay for each card.

Now let me introduce a few of my favorite designs to give you a feel of what Shutterfly has to offer.

The Holly Frame Christmas Card caught my eyes with its simple, classic layout. The white ribbon could go well with any picture inside the frame. There's plenty of room inside for personalized greetings. And the decorative red and green colors add considerable festivity to the entire card.  This design clearly manifests the beauty of simplicity.

Just as its name suggests, the Joy Oh Joy Holiday Card is great to share your joy and send smiles to someone you love. It utilizes a nice selection of bright colors and cute images to present your favorite photos. It allows you to add photos of up to 4 children or up to 4 family members. Isn't it wonderful to see all your beloved ones on the same card? Better yet, 10% of this card purchase will go to the American Lung Association.

I'm also in love with this Dazzle and Shine Christmas Card. Like the previous card, it can carry multiple photos, but it also offers you the ability to diversify the way you present them. You may add one favorite portrait along with three small snapshots. I think it perfect for a family with one child.

Start browsing the new Shutterfly Holiday Card Collection today and feel free to share your favorite designs with the rest of us.

Do you want 50 free holiday cards from Shutterfly? Click here to go to Shutterfly for information on how you can get 50 free cards this holiday season, and make sure to select Clever 1000 as the referral source.

This post is part of a series sponsored by Shutterfly. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

Guest Post: A Mexican Getaway by Marcie Pickelsimer

Marcie Pickelsimer, founder of Grown in My Heart and a member of the Villa Group travel affiliate network, got the chance to visit Nuevo Vallarta and shares priceless vacation memories and tips.

PV Mexico 2010 226.jpg
I'm beginning to think that living in Mexico might not be so bad as long as I can live at the Del Palmar Flamingos and had my food delivered to me poolside everyday. I don't think Jenny Craig would go for it though and with all the money I've been paying her lately it would be such a waste, wouldn't it? Oh, but I could dream.

The entire family returned home last Saturday from Mexico, sun drenched and beer logged (at least the adults, that is). After literally living in paradise for seven days the leaves on the ground were not a welcome sight.

But I digress...Since this is a review I'll make it easy and outline a few things.

The Food:

While the resort only sports two restaurants and two bars (open at different times), the food is fabulous. The Bellavista Restaurant offers a causal breakfast buffet or menu dining, à la carte lunches, and buffet or à la carte dinners with themes such as lobster, Mexican, Argentinian grilled meats, and pasta. The open air Cafe is both pool and beachside and serves pizza, burgers, sandwiches, Mexican items, and tropical drinks (and beer and liquor) from late morning to early evening. The Cafe turns into an Italian restaurant, La Trattoria, at 6 pm for beachfront dining. They serve fabulous pizza, onion rings, quesadillas, and fruit plates. They also have the most incredible gelato.

During the day, servers cater to quests every whim: one only has to raise an empty glass or lift an eyebrow to signal their attention. Servers are hospitable, kind, gracious, and very child friendly. Although the all-inclusive information states no tipping the servers do expect tips and because the minimum wage in Mexico is so low we actually didn't mind. It is the way they make their living.

The all-inclusive package:

My family chose the all-inclusive package because we took two young children and knew they would want to snack during the day. This was actually a great deal for us and in my opinion the only way to go if you eat more than one meal and drink more than two drinks at the resort per day. The daily cost for the all inclusive is $70 for an adult and $35 for a child under 12. When you add up food prices and drink prices it makes complete sense. Additionally, the all-inclusive package includes all of your non-motorized water sports, kids club, and the fitness center.

Children's activities:

DSC_0702.JPG
I have two boys that LOVE the water but they can only get so much of the beach and the pool. SO, it was a great option for us that the Flamingos had a Kid-Certified Staff. Everyday there were age-specific activities for our seven year old (two was too young). He could make bracelets, paint ceramic animals, play bubbles, join movie time, or even join in some good Pirate fun. During Prime Vacation season they also have Kids Nights that include dinner, arcades, discos and movies. My boys were exhausted by 5 pm because ALL they wanted to do was surf the waves or play in the pool waterfalls.

The resort also offers babysitting services which we used once. The service is $15 an hour and if you use it after 10 pm you will also need to pay $15 for a taxi. Pretty reasonable. The babysitter we used was the concierge from the hotel next door (also part of the Villas) who had a child the same age as our oldest.

The BEST activity of the week was the Sea Lions. Every Tuesday the resort brings in a Sea Lion named Maggie for all of the hotel guests (and neighboring hotel guests) to see. (It's part of a tour promotion) Maggie was absolutely gorgeous and super sweet. She smiled, gave kisses to Gus, and was a blast to see.

Adult Activities:

My husband loved the adult activities, as he was able to play some vigorous beach volleyball, pool volleyball, and water polo.

The resort also has theme dinners on Sunday nights. It's a little over the top but they have interesting Mexican entertainment, good food, great drinks, and entertainment for the kids.

Additional Activities:

Because my family was at the resort to review the property the General Manager offered us some fabulous extras so that we could see all the resort had to offer. I would not generally pay for these activities because, well, we can't really afford these extravagances on just my husband's salary. However, I do HIGHLY recommend that if you get the chance to try one or two of these please, do. They were absolutely fabulous.

Spa treatment;

My husband and I were offered the Honeymoon spa treatment at the Tatewari Spa that would include a European Seaweed Facial, Therapeutic Hot Towel Massage, Tropical Exfoliation, a bottle of champagne and Hors d'oeuvres. It is valued at $225. However, my husband is not really into spas. So, I offered to take my mother who was along for the trip with us. We were able to choose whatever treatment we wanted and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The spa is absolutely beautiful, a little pricey (but they are always offering deals), and the treatments are incredible. We both chose the mud massage and a facial and I honestly LOVED it, as I had never had either.

Dinner at La Casona;

Um, Heaven? We hired a babysitter for this evening because we wanted to be able to have at least one dinner without a child on our lap or food flung at us. It was well worth it. Chef Eugenio knows his way around organic foods, raw foods, gourmet delights, and even fabulous desserts. The menu includes specials like Kobe beef and his own specialty, Creme Brulee. Dining at La Casona is not included in the all-inclusive.

En Villa Dining with Chef Eugenio

The Villa La Estancia directly next door to Flamingos is an ownership community that is absolutely divine. We were invited to tour THE Penthouse and enjoy dinner created by Chef Eugenio and his staff. I can't explain how special this was to my family. We were able to enjoy the sunset from the top of the resort, sip a cocktail, and dine with one of Mexico's premier chef's.

Cooking Lessons with Chef Eugenio
DSC_0832.JPG

The last day of our trip Eric and I had the unique opportunity to have an afternoon cooking lesson with chef Eugenio. Yes, me...the one who does not cook. I actually learned to cut vegetables the correct way, learned a fabulous secret to REALLY good guacamole, and I now have an incredible recipe for Tortilla Soup (that I can't wait to try!).

The afternoon included a Personalized Chef Jacket, lunch and wine, a recipe book, diplomas, and the lesson. The afternoon is valued at $200 per couple.

You can take a tour of the entire facility online at the Villa Del Palmar Flamingos.

*As a member of the Villa Group Travel Affiliate Network, The Villa Group Resorts gave my family the spa treatment, several dinners, the cooking class, and a portion of our stay in return for this review.

Ten Ideas for Incorporating Fun and Play into Your Child’s Daily Activities

TwitterMoms has teamed up with The Hub, a newly launched TV channel for kids and families for an awesome blog contest, in which the first 50 participants will receive a $50 Target.com gift card! To participate, you will need to write a thoughtful quality post sharing 10 ideas for incorporating fun and play into your child’s daily activities.

Here are some of my favorites that have been working great for my son.

Brushing Fun: Getting your child to brush her teeth twice a day can be a boring chore for both of you. What I do to make brushing a fun activity is to brush with my son and compete for richer foams, louder rinsing and ultimately whiter teeth. Choosing a cute toothbrush and changing brushes regularly is also an effective way to make my child like brushing better. I also encourage him to count his teeth as he brushes or humming his favorite songs.

Eating Fun: Eating healthy food is a top priority for my family, but it's not always easy to get kids to eat what's good for them. I find making colorful and nice-looking dishes a fun way to introduce a good variety of vegetables to my son. Diversifying the ways to cook the same ingredients also makes eating more enjoyable. Have you ever tried incorporating games into eating? For instance, when my son asks for his favorite sweet treat--M&M, I'll ask him to guess the color of the next candy coming out of the bag. Only a correct guess will win him a sweet chocolate candy. And he needs to drink up a small cup of water before he can take another guess.

Outdoor Fun: My son's favorite time of the day is to play outside in the playground at the park. He will happily drink a lot of water and eat plenty of fruits while he's having fun going down the slides or riding in the swing. By playing outside, he gets sunshine, fresh air and good physical exercise that are all necessary for his growth.

Music Fun: Both my son and I love to have music in the background for any daily activity: playing, reading, learning, eating, and even sleeping. It's a great way to cultivate his love for music, help him learn new songs, and increase his interest in the activity he's engaged in. Cheerful music will frequently get him to dance around in excitement.

Book Fun: Reading is an important part of my son's daily routine. He loves it more when we read out aloud together, when I use funny tones, or when we take different roles to act out the story.

Potty Fun: My son is undergoing potty training. What sounds like a headache has turned out to be quite smooth and painless for us. A cute, colorful potty chair is a good starting point. Lovely charts and stickers also do the trick. My son takes great pride in becoming a big boy and going potty on his own.

Shopping Fun: Taking the kids to grocery shopping makes the kids feel that they are an important part of the family. They get to know a lot of things we use in daily life and learn to make choices and decisions, no matter how trivial they may seem.

Cooking Fun: My son loves to watch me cooking for the entire family. He's a bit too young to help out in the kitchen, but he's very enthusiastic about doing what he can, like handing mommy a plate or putting trash into the trash can. He also learns about vegetables and ways to turn them into different shapes.

Bathing Fun: What's better than a warm bath before going to bed? My son loves playing with his water toys in the tub and making bubbles from time to time. I encourage him to clean up his body on his own. He's happily taken that as a sign of growing up.

Bedtime Fun: It's been quite a challenge to put a toddler to sleep. I've experimented with various props: cuddly toys, soothing music, and sleep-related stories. Sometimes they work, but sometimes they don't. We've recently developed a new game to help my son go to sleep on his own. Daddy and son will be competing to see who can keep his eyes shut for a longer time and mommy will be the judge. The winner will be awarded his favorite snack for the next day. My son amazed me with his memory when he asked for his prize after waking up in the morning.

Do you have any unique tips for making daily routines more fun for your kid? Please don't keep them to yourself. Share them with the TwitterMoms community and you could win a nice prize!

Disclosure: I wrote this blog post while participating in the TwitterMoms and The Hub blogging program, making me eligible to get a $50 gift card. For more information on how you can participate, click here.

Terro Fruit Fly Trap Review and Giveaway

~~The giveaway is now CLOSED~~
Fruit flies are much smaller but no less annoying than regular flies. They seemed impossible to get rid of until I received a Terro Fruit Fly Trap for review via Family Review Network. This is the first fruit fly trap we've ever tried and I was totally amazed at how easily it solved a problem that had been pestering us for a long time.
The new Terro Fruit Fly Trap takes the shape and color of a ripening apple, which is aesthetically appealing and can easily blend in with any home decor. My son repeatedly attempted to reach for the cute apple. Although I told him that it was not a real apple, he has yet to be convinced.

My favorite feature of the Trap is that it uses a non-toxic food-based lure. It's all natural and safe for the environment. The non-toxic acetic acid found in the lure can effectively attract adult fruit flies into the specially designed trap with one-way traffic and thus stop them from breeding. We saw a significant drop in the number of fruit flies in our kitchen within a few days of applying the trap. Dead bodies of fruit flies were clearly visible inside the trap. Now that we've used the trap for several weeks, no more traces of fruit flies are found around our fruit bowl or trash can. Hooray!

The Terro Fruit Fly Trap is very easy to use. Simply open the lid, squeeze in the red liquid lure, and place the trap near a breeding source, such as fruit bowl or garbage storage area. In the embedded video, Stew Clark, Director of R&D at Terro, will show you exactly how the trap works. You may also want to check out Stew's blog What's Bugging Stew? for great pest control tips.

Fruit fly populations tend to be greatest in late summer and early fall, so it's high time you got a Terro Fruit Fly Trap for your home. It's only $8.99 apiece. Terro is an industry leader in household pest control products. They carry a variety of products that fits your need for a safer and nicer home environment.

Yandy.com Halloween Costume Review

With Halloween drawing really close, a lot of moms have already started costume shopping for their kids. But hey ladies, you deserve a costume of your own! I was recently introduced to Yandy.com, a website dedicated to providing Sexy Halloween Costumes for adult women.  It carries an amazing selection of over 2,000 standard and plus size costumes. It's also a great place to shop for lingerie and dresses.
Yandy.com generously offered me a $60 shopping spree to their online store. It took me quite a long time to decide what to choose, given their huge, dazzling collection. I was looking for something colorful, youthful, and completely different from my usual dressing style. After browsing through and comparing hundreds of costumes, I finally landed my choice on this cute one-piece Swiss Girl Costume, featuring a dress with peasant style top and sleeves, lace-up bodice, layered skirt with lace trim and bows. Made with 100% cotton, the dress is comfortable to wear and easy to take care of. The shipping was impressively fast (2 days) and cost a flat rate of $5.95.

Despite how I love the costume, I can't fit in it. I ordered according to my usual dress size, but it turned out to be smaller, especially around wait and hip. Instead of requesting an exchange, I gave the costume to my cousin, who's slimmer than me. The dress fit her beautifully. Each costume on Yandy.com has its unique size chart. It's important that you check all the numbers on the chart to get the right size. From my experience, you'd better size up a bit when you order.

I also bought a pair of Opaque Footless Tights W/ Skull & Heart Print and Sheer Pantyhose in black. They both fit me well. I love that Yandy.com recommends matching accessories for most of their costumes, such as petticoat, stockings, or shoes. This feature makes one-stop shop really easy.
Yandy.com provides quality costumes in a wide price range. Whether you're looking for something simple and affordable, or something extravagant and classy, you can find a nice fit here. This Gypsy Halloween Costume is one of my favorites costing less than $60.
And this incredibly chic Go Go Girl Costume cost only $20.95!

Treat yourself to some cute costumes from Yandy.com this Halloween. You'll enjoy the speedy delivery and sexy designs. Wish you a most stylish Halloween!
