Check out the latest addition to award-winning author Cheryl DaVeiga's Biff Bam Booza collection and enter to win all five books in the collection!

A “Fin-tastic” adventure Like No Other!

Fearless Flossy, a mighty great white shark, has a secret—she’s terrified of going to the dentist. Dr. Dribble, the big-hearted dolphin dentist, has a jaw-dropping fear of his own, and a strict “No Sharks Allowed” policy. When Fearless Flossy makes an unannounced visit to Dr. Dribble’s office, it’s the start of an underwater adventure like no other! This ‘fin-tastic’ story is must-read for kids and parents alike. Young readers will be immersed in a tale of courage, compassion, and conquering fear, while giggling and cheering for these unlikely friends along the way.

Dive in with a big Biff Bam Booza smile.

My Review:

Addressing children's fear about going to the dentist as well as fear in general, The Dolphin Dentist tells an amusing and educational tale about kindness, courage and making positive changes. Known as the Queen of the Seas, Fearless Flossy Fin is afraid of nothing except for going to the dentist. All the screeching sounds and pointy tools there are just too much for her. But when Flossy's 300 teeth get unbearably filthy, stinky, and crooked due to lack of proper care, she has no choice but to follow Mama Fin to see Dr. Dribble, the dolphin dentist who, terrified of sharks, first refuses to show up and then scares Flossy away with some awful lies. Will the doctor reconsider his "No Sharks Allowed" policy? Will the great white shark regain her queen title with great white teeth?

The book cleverly combines humorous language and quirky visuals to draw young readers into this imaginative story with relatable scenarios and perky characters. The underwater world becomes closely connected to the human world through such delightful wordplay like fin-tastic, fin-ternet, and five-starfish rating. The funny, expressive illustrations provide plenty of delicious details that are worth savoring. Kids get to familiarize themselves with what to expect during a dental visit and what to do to improve oral health, while having a good laugh over Flossy and Dr. Dribble. Moreover, they are encouraged to face their worst fear, to correct their wrongs, and to treat others with kindness and fairness.

Whether your little ones love their dentists or not, they'll sure enjoy reading The Dolphin Dentist and be motivated to take better care of their pearly whites.

The Museum of Lost Teeth Blog Tour: Review and Prize Pack Giveaway

What do you usually do with the lost baby teeth of your children? Have your little ones ever wondered about the whereabouts of those teeth? Author Elyssa Friedland comes up with a creative and cheerful way to address their concern in her debut picture book The Museum of Lost Teeth. Check out what I've got to say about this hilarious book and enter to win a copy, along with a $25 gift card to Bookshop.org!

My Review:

Well-written and imaginatively illustrated, The Museum of Lost Teeth is a highly engrossing and entertaining book that teaches about dental care by following a baby tooth's fun adventure after it fells out. Toothy prides himself on being a sharp and shining incisor inside the mouth of Liam, who does a great job of brushing and flossing every day. He doesn't feel so good though, about becoming the first baby tooth to say bye to Liam. Just as Toothy starts worrying about his future, the Tooth Fairy picks him up and flies him to the magnificent Museum of Lost Teeth, where he embarks on an eye-opening experience involving all sorts of fun activities.

From showing busy Tooth Fairies in different genders and skin colors to sharing their funny but sincere letters to the kids, each page of this book delivers pure enjoyment to the readers, young and old alike. With a skillful and humorous play on words, the author suggests how the same words or phrases can mean very different things in different contexts. Colorful and playful, the illustrations boast an abundance of comical details worth exploring and examining closely. Examples include elements that resemble a real museum (information desk, directory, glass display cases, velvet rope barriers, schedule of activities, guided tour, etc.) as well as laughable items like parodies of famous paintings and sculptures featuring tooth figures, vending machines filled with dental care products, and a tooth-shaped walkie-talkie.

The story encourages kids to practice good oral hygiene by praising healthy habits like brushing and flossing while warning about the consequences of not taking proper care of their teeth. Meanwhile, it portrays tooth fairies as more relatable and human-like. Despite their flying capabilities, they can get lost, become injured, or make mistakes.

Both my kids and I are truly amazed by the fantastic job done by the author and the illustrator. This charming book is worth reading over and over again, and has the potential of becoming a new classic for children.

About the Book:

Ages 4+ | 40 Pages
Publisher: Abrams Books for Young Readers | ISBN-13: 978-1419757051

Find out where the tooth fairy takes all those lost teeth in this laugh-out-loud new picture book, perfect for fans of School’s First Day of School.

Toothy lives in Liam’s mouth next to his best friend Fang. He’s a good tooth—sparkly and strong, and he loves doing the floss.

One day, Toothy notices that he is loose and panics! Where will he go after he leaves his comfy spot next to Fang? After a crunchy apple seals the deal, Toothy is tucked under Liam’s pillow. When the Tooth Fairy appears, she takes Toothy to the Museum of Lost Teeth. It’s a more incredible place than Toothy could have ever imagined. It’s filled with new friends and fun activities like Tooth or Dare! Toothy finds a new home on the Firsts Floor, where first baby teeth are proudly displayed

New ACT Kids Toothpaste: Say No to Cavities #ACTKidsToothpaste

This post and party was sponsored by ACT Kids Toothpaste but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dental care is serious business in our house, not only because the health of our teeth is closely tied to our overall health, but also because a healthy smile helps boost confidence and self-esteem, which are of considerable significance for our children and their future. We make sure our kids brush at least twice a day, floss nightly, and visit the dentist every six months. At the same time, we want them to have fun while taking good care of their pearly whites. Thanks to ACT Kids and MommyParties, my kids got to invite some of their friends over last week for a fantastic house party, during which they played fun games, learned great tips for cavity prevention, and best of all, each received a super-duper ACT Kids Toothpaste goodie bag!

There are quite a few common daily battles that moms have with their kids and getting kids to brush their teeth is one of them for many moms. According to a recent survey, nearly 4 in 10 moms (35%) say getting their kid(s) to brush their teeth is one of their most frustrating daily battles, in line with convincing their kid(s) to eat their veggies (38%) and putting their kid(s) to bed at night (40%).*

While our kids are fairly cooperative in terms of brushing their teeth every morning and evening, it is quite challenging for us to exercise quality control. They don't always brush long enough or thoroughly enough. So I still need to step in and remind them about proper brushing techniques from time to time. I've noticed however, that they do better when they use a toothpaste in a flavor they like and one with which they can make a lot of bubbles.

My kids and I were equally excited to unbox our ACT Kids Toothpaste party pack, which included a good number of handy party supplies, educational materials, activity sheets and ten goodie bags filled with ACT Kids Toothpaste samples, colorful toothbrushes and cute gadgets in the shape of healthy teeth.

We started the party off with a light brunch with rolls, sandwiches, cheese, fresh fruit, organic beef jerky and dark chocolate almond bars. We were then ready to educate ourselves about oral care, cavity prevention, healthy eating, etc through the materials and activities provided in the party kit. It was a rewarding and entertaining experience for both the kiddos and their parents. I was shocked to find out that more than 16 million children in the US suffer from tooth decay, with 25% getting cavities before entering kindergarten and 80% by age 171. Thankfully, fluoride toothpaste like ACT Kids Toothpaste can effectively strengthen kids teeth and protect them from cavities.

Specially developed for kids ages 2 and up, ACT Kids Toothpaste is available in two fun flavors that kids love: Bubble Gum and Fruit Punch. Based on feedback from my kids, the toothpaste leaves their mouth feeling fresh and clean, with no unpleasant aftertaste.

Through the color-coded infographic provided by ACT Kids, the kiddos learned about ways to keep their teeth healthy, such as brushing with a fluoride toothpaste twice a day for two minutes each time, flossing daily, visiting the dentist regularly, and adding rinse to dental care routine starting at the age of 6. ACT Kids Anticavity Fluoride Rinse, if used for 60 seconds a day, helps children ages 6 years and older reduce cavities up to 40% more than brushing alone! A healthy, balanced diet, and fluoridated water also help prevent tooth decay. That piece of knowledge is reinforced by the Happy Tooth Vs. Sad Tooth craft project and the matching game we played at the party. Now the kids know better about what food and drink their teeth like and what they should try to stay away from.

The most anticipated moment for the kids at the party, of course, wass time to find out what's inside their goodies bags. Each of our little party guests left with a big smile on their faces and I expect their smiles to be even healthier with the help of ACT Kids Toothpaste!

Visit ACToralcare.com/act-for-kids for information about the new ACT Kids Toothpaste, which is now available at a variety of retail locations, including select Walmart, Walgreens and Target locations. You may want to print out this $1 off coupon at ACTKidsSavings.com and bring it to the stores where ACT Kids Toothpaste and Rinse are sold. Hope your child will love the new product as much as we do. Please feel free to share your thoughts and personal experience with us in the comments section. Happy brushing!

Myths & Facts About Dental Injuries & Dental Care Kit Giveaway {Life's A Beach Giveaway Hop}

Do you love an active lifestyle and exercise regularly? Do you have kids who frequently participate in sports activities? Do you know how to protect yourself or your child from dental injuries in sports? Great Expressions Dental Centers (GEDC) wants to share with you some myths and facts about dental injuries. You may want to educate the athletes in your life about the issue before they hit the field, so you won’t get hit with a large dental bill.

A recent study found that more than 5 million teeth are injured and/or knocked out each year resulting in nearly 500 million dollars spent on replacing teeth. It has also been reported that nearly 12 percent of high school boys admitted to using chewing tobacco. This means spreading awareness of the harms of chewing tobacco and investing in the right facial and mouth protection is essential for your athlete.

MYTH: Chewing tobacco is better for you than inhaling tobacco.
FACT: There are at least 28 chemicals in chewing tobacco that have been found to cause cancer, that include types like oral, pancreatic and esophageal.

MYTH: Dental injuries only occur in contact sports, so I don’t need a mouth guard if I’m playing a non-contact sport.
FACT: Sports-related injuries often end up in the emergency room and according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, more than 600,000 of these visits involve damage to the teeth and mouth – in sports including baseball, acrobatics and bicycling.

MYTH: They only way to prevent oral injuries in sports is wearing a mouth guard.
FACT: While wearing a mouth guard is one effective way to prevent oral injuries in sports, there are also face cages, these protect against trauma to the face. Be sure to do research on the best protective gear before your son or daughter steps on the field.

MYTH: Once a tooth gets knocked out, there isn’t much a dentist can do to repair it.
FACT: Should a tooth get knocked out while playing a sport, or doing anything else, it can be repaired if handled correctly. The sooner you can get to your dentist’s office, the better. Knocked-out teeth with the highest chances of being saved are those that are seen by a dentist and returned to their socket within an hour of the injury.

FACT: Injuries in sports are sometimes inevitable. Be sure to do ample research on which sport your son and/or daughter are interested in before they take the field. This will help educate you as a parent on how to best equip them, preventing injuries to their smile, but also any type of injury to their body.

Dental Care Tips for Children from CloSYS Experts

February is Children’s Dental Health Month. Dental care experts from CloSYS have kindly provided some tips to help parents keep their kids' mouth clean and healthy. Read on for "Tell, Show, and Do: How to Make the Most of Children’s Dental Health Month."

February is a great time to recognize the importance of oral health for children and effectively get your child interested in good oral hygiene. Parents can help children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums by modeling good behavior, developing good habits at an early age, and scheduling regular dental visits.

It can even start as early as in infancy by familiarizing your child with the feel of a soft infant toothbrush or wet wash cloth as you clean their gums after mealtimes. Give your child, even if they don’t have teeth, a soft bristle toothbrush so they can copy mom or dad. They will do it!

Another great way to teach young children and toddlers the proper techniques of good oral hygiene is to tell, show and do.

TELL: Explain how to brush and floss and how those actions keep teeth clean and healthy. Make sure you use age-appropriate language so your child will truly understand. Let them ask questions, and make sure to answer them.

SHOW: Let children watch when you brush and floss your own teeth. Again, let them ask questions and make sure to answer them. Answer them by showing them. Sometimes using a stuffed animal can help you demonstrate.

DO: Help children brush their teeth in the morning and before bed. Keep a regular routine so they know it’s expected. Brush for at least two minutes. Sometimes teaching them a song that takes about two minutes helps. It helps them brush for the whole time, as well as makes it fun! Continue to help your child brush their teeth until they’re 4 or 5 years old. After that, let them do it themselves, but supervise and monitor until they’re 7 or 8 years old.
