My Review:

The Snail and the Butterfly is a cozy and uplifting rhyming picture book demonstrating the magic power of courage, confidence, determination and perseverance. A little snail catches the attention of an old butterfly as every day he keeps climbing up the stalk of the mushroom she rests on and then aborting his mission right before reaching the top. Puzzled by this rather odd observation, the butterfly initiates a conversation with the snail, who reveals his wish to learn how to fly - to fly away from all the scary things on the ground. Will the butterfly be his mentor?

The combination of a snail, a butterfly, and a mushroom is a sure win among young readers. While simple sentences coupled with short rhyming words make the book pleasant to read aloud and easy to understand, its cheerful, brightly colored illustrations featuring a neat, nature-themed background charm the little ones with cute characters and light-hearted humor.

Not only does the tale motivate young readers to dare to dream big, but it also suggests steps they can take to realize their dream and to overcome their fear for failure. Sometimes a little encouragement is all that one needs to gather the courage to move forward. In addition, a change of standpoint may help transform vision into action. The positive involvement of the butterfly indicates the critical role a parent, a teacher, or grown-ups in general, may play in providing advice and guidance for little dreamers and in boosting their confidence when they feel frustrated or intimidated.

Wittily written and beautifully illustrated, The Snail and the Butterfly is a small book that entertains and enlightens anyone with a big dream.
