Looking for toys that can add fun to your children's summer vacation while keeping them active, away from the screens, and learning something new? I'd like to share with you some of my recent discoveries from Target.
All-Pro Passer Robotic Quarterback
Programmed with the skill, timing and accuracy of a pro quarterback, the All-Pro Passer Robotic Quarterback hold the power to launch the ball for as far as 25 yards! It is very easy to set up and play. Just use the pump to customize the pressure level, select the desired play mode and passing zone by pressing the corresponding button, and then witness the perfect throw from the All-Pro Passer. There are nine different passing zones to choose from, 3 short, 3 mid-field and 3 long, which allow you to try various combinations through hundreds of plays.
The All-Pro Passer can be used to practice catching on your own or to play with as many friends as you like. It's the perfect game to play in the backyard, the park, or any open field. My boys had tons of fun running and racing to catch the ball. It offers good exercise for everyone and it doesn't matter if you know nothing about football. The award-winning Wubble ball has a new variation - Groovy Glow! It features a colorful tie-dye design and glows in the dark. With its new patented, self-sealing valve, Groovy Glow Wubble is easier to blow up. You can also use a pump for speedier inflation. Like any other Wubble ball, it's super soft, squishy and bouncy. You can throw it, kick it, sit on it, or watch it float through the air like a bubble.
My kids enjoyed playing with their new Wubble balls both indoors and outdoors, and both during the day and at night. In fact, it's fun for the entire family. It only takes 10 minutes of light exposure to make the balls glow in the dark and they can be easily deflated for storage or transportation.
Smithsonian Rock and Gem Dig Kit
The Smithsonian Rock and Gem Dig Kit includes a sand block with 11 real gemstones, minerals and rocks hidden inside, along with all the tools needed for excavation, a wooden mallet, a dowel, a magnifying glass, a pair of goggles, a streak plate, a storage pouch and a color poster with instructions. It's a great STEM toy that provides hands-on experience with gem digging and teaches about how rocks and minerals are formed and how to identify them. A perfect gift for kids with an interest in geology. My sons loved the thrill of treasure hunting and discovery. The kit is best used outside to avoid making a mess on the floor.
Smithsonian Prehistoric Sea Monsters Kit
The Smithsonian Prehistoric Sea Monsters Kit comes with a bag of Triop eggs (also known as Sea Monkeys), a plastic aquarium, a dinosaur background, one bag of sand and a color poster with instructions. The setup is very simple. Just put an even layer of sand at the bottom of the aquarium, fill the tank with distilled or filtered room temperature water, pour in the Triops eggs and wait for them to hatch over the next week or so.
It's a unqiue STEM toy that encourages kids to engage in scientific observation. They may take a journal to note down the progress of hatching, feeding and taking care of their prehistoric pets, which eat a variety of food and can live up to two months. It does take some patience for the real fun to begin, but the excitement of witnessing a 220-million year old species come to life and grow over 20 times their original size is well worth the wait!
All these toys are available at Target.com at affordable prices. Hope you'll get the chance to try one or more of them with your little ones.
