My Review:
Inspired by the author's real-life furry friends with the same names, Dash and Zoom: Little Miss Sneakypants tells a delightfully engaging story with important life lessons. Dash is a playful Jack Russel Terrier who loves to grab random objects in sight and hide them under the chair, on which her best friend Zoom is trying to get some rest. The problem is: none of the things she takes, from stray socks to Zoom's favorite ball, belongs to her. It is not until she notices Zoom's sad face that Dash realizes it is time to stop her mischief and make things right.
The expressive illustrations and the easy-to-follow language work hand in hand to bring to life the lovely story of Dash and Zoom. While the colorful pictures allow young readers to observe what the characters do and how they feel, the simple text composed primarily of questions addressed to Dash prompts them to think about what they would do if they were in Dash's shoes. By showing the consequences of Dash's actions, the story gently explains why we shouldn't take things that belong to others. Meanwhile, it suggests possible ways to make amends and minimize negative impacts. It also encourages the little ones to care about other people's feelings toward their behavior, and to cherish friends with a good influence.
I strongly agree with the author that learning good decision making early in life helps children grow into better human beings. And this book makes an enjoyable starting point!
About the Book:
Ages 1-5 | 32 Pages
Publisher: Lyric & Stone Publishing | ISBN-13: 978-1733759861
Dash and Zoom are really good friends. But when Dash takes things that don’t belong to her, even Zoom’s ball, there’s a problem to be solved because not only is Dash taking things that don’t belong to her, but she’s also hurting Zoom’s feelings.
Kids often have a difficult time understanding that they shouldn’t take things that don’t belong to them. When we don’t rescue kids from mistakes and instead focus on the solution, it’s an opportunity to help them learn to make good choices. The illustrations are extremely engaging and it’s always fun to see how many things you can find under that precarious chair.
Dash And Zoom: Little Miss Sneakypants is written for young children who are learning social norms. It exemplifies good decision-making and helps kids solve problems rather than being ‘in trouble’ for making a mistake. If children are approached with the opportunity to fix what is wrong without fear of anger it often contributes to good decision-making skills all throughout their lives. These two dogs are so engaging that children will want to read the book again and again.
