My Review:

Meow Is Not a Cat is a brilliantly funny and enjoyable read for all. Meow is the name of a child who seems to always have trouble following the teacher's directions. But it happens only because, as the story explains, Meow tends to think and understand things differently from the rest of the class. When instructed to feed bananas to the monkeys during a school outing to the zoo, Meow decides that it is not fair for the monkeys to keep ALL the bananas. Doesn't the teacher often say sharing is caring? Things go wild soon after Meow starts grabbing bananas away from uncooperative monkeys, who then go on a furious chase after the creature in the cat-shaped hat.

Marked with hilarious scenarios and amusing illustrations, the book is sure to bring about bursts of laughter. The inclusion of a real, rather judgemental cat in the story adds to its humor and charm. Without explicit reference to the term, the book subtly helps raise awareness about the presence of neurodiversity. It is perfectly normal for individuals to process information in different ways due to variations in how their brains function. What has been considered common sense may not be equally straightforward or readily comprehensible to everyone. Meow's story prompts parents and educators to think more creatively about how to help neurodiverse kids thrive academically and socially. It calls for patience, acceptance, flexibility, and focus on their strengths, including great imagination, attention to complex details and thinking outside the box. Believe it or not, there are always things we could learn from those who are different!

About the Book:

Ages 4+ | 44 Pages
Publisher: FDI Publishing LLC | ISBN-13: 9781736700488

Meow is definitely not a cat. Cats lick their butts. Follow along as this wild child’s unique way of following instructions ends up going a little bananas.

Meow Is Not Cat is a completely goofy story, guaranteed to make kids laugh. With a cynical cat, wild monkeys, butt jokes, and a banana cannon, even pre-readers will love shouting out their favorite parts as you read aloud. Nestled among the laughs is a lesson about how embracing a person’s different way of interpreting the world can lead to surprisingly good results —and bananas, lots of bananas.
