Avalina Jones and the Eye of the Storm is a fast-paced, action-packed fantasy following the thrilling adventure of a 10-year-old girl named Avalina Jones aboard a giant schoolship for kids of pirate ancestry. A mysterious midnight visitor to the orphanage where Avalina spends the least interesting years of her childhood reveals a shocking secret about her real identity and changes her life ever since. Her arrival at Aquatiery, a magnificent, multi-functional ghost ship, opens the door to a whole new world where she truly belongs, a Pirate Kingdom teeming with enchantment, excitement, challenges, dangers, and dark secrets. While being trained for essential pirate skills, Avalina gets to witness the splendor of sea magic, meet strange sea creatures that combine features of humans and ocean animals, and make friends with other Heirs of the High Fleet.
With charm and humor, the author does a marvelous job of story-telling and character development. Her picturesque descriptions make it easy for readers to visualize what the characters are experiencing and get fully immersed in the whimsical world she masterly creates. Avalina is such a strong, brave, adventurous, intelligent, and energetic young girl that everyone would want to befriend. The vibrant cinematic feel of the story makes me long for a film adaption. Either an animated or live-action movie based on the novel should be incredibly fun to watch.
Brilliantly written and highly imaginative, the book is sure to be appreciated by fantasy and adventure lovers of all ages! This is the kind that you wouldn't want to put down once picked up. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series to come out!
