In developing the product, I paid close attention to every detail to ensure that children would enjoy the calendars and eagerly anticipate the daily ritual of opening another flap and getting a sweet treat. The illustrations on the front and back of the box are from a terrific children's illustrator. For our Halloween calendar box, the front has a haunted house and the back has a creepy cemetery. As a former teacher, it was important to me that the calendars also have educational aspects. Printed on the underside of each flap is the number of days remaining until Halloween, helping kids understand the numerical concept of counting down days, or more specifically counting backward to indicate the days left before Halloween occurs. Also printed on the underside of each flap is a mini picture of a Halloween image that the children are to find somewhere in the graveyard scene on the backside. This daily exercise helps hone kids' observational skills, and from personal experience, my grandkids sure love the challenge of spotting certain objects in a picture!
