Research has shown that children who don’t engage in educational activities over the summer stand to lose an average of 2.6 months of academic growth, known as the Summer Slide. Your child doesn't have to be one of them! "Learning can be fun" is well demonstrated through PowerMyLearning's ingenious endeavors to bring you the best educational games across the web all in one place. It saves parents considerable time from searching for free activities that are appropriate and beneficial for their children. The team of educators behind PowerMyLearning handpicked the most fun and effective ones out of thousands of free resources available on the Internet, and sorted them by grade and subject in reference to the Common Core Standard.
All you have to do to enjoy the free contents at PowerMyLearning.org is to create an account with minimal personal information like name and email. You can easily browse the game selection by grade and subject including math, reading, art, science, foreign language and more. You can narrow down your search further by specific topic under each subject area.
I registered at PowerMyLearning and let my older son explore the site with me first and then on his own. He loves most of the games for his level. In fact, he's acquired more knowledge than he had at school without realizing that he's not only playing but also learning! I have to limit the amount of time he spends on the computer and offer playing at PowerMyLearning as a reward.
My son's favorite math games include Bumble Bee, Time Keeper and Solid Figure Factory, as shown in the screenshots. While a lot of the games available through PowerMyLearning are owned by other websites, you don't have to leave the PowerMyLearning portal to play them AND you don't need to create separate accounts on different sites. You are also given the option to play directly on the host site by clicking on the "Expand Window" arrow.
I love that all the games are safe and appropriate for children. It bothered me when I saw my friend's child spend hours killing zombies on iPad. I told her about PowerMyLearning and she was really excited about the new encounter.
PowerMyLearning is created by CFY, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the "ownership of learning" by providing children with the necessary resources to direct their own learning. From our experience, PowerMyLearning.org is an excellent educational website to help prevent learning loss at all times as well as a great toolkit for homeschooling parents. I'd highly recommend it to anyone with school-aged children.
