My husband has been suffering from seasonal allergies for years and we've been actively searching for ways to help relieve his symptoms. I'm so excited to be part of the Flip for Fall campaign because not only will I be able to try out allergen filtration bedding products from Aller-Ease, but I'll also be getting great tips and suggestions from you. Aller-Ease has generously provided each of the 10 participating bloggers with 2 Standard Allergen Barrier Pillows with Washable Covers, 2 Deluxe Zippered Pillow Protectors and a queen size Cotton Mattress Protector (as shown below). I'll show you these amazing products and how we use them to flip for all in a later post. And anyone who is willing to share what you do to flip for all will be eligible to win the same gift set on my blog.
Here is a list of things we do to prepare our home for the change of season:
- Change and wash bedding every week. Now that we've got Aller-Ease products that provide an allergen filtration layer, we may only need to change every other week.
- Vacuum the carpet daily. It'll be ideal to use a vacuum equipped with a HEPA filter, but we don't have one now.
- Change clothes when we get home from the outside. We do this for all seasons.
- Change air conditioner filters more frequently.
- De-clutter and clean the rooms more frequently to minimize dust buildups

It's always good to vacuum your mattresses, especially with a hepa vacuum sweeper.

Replace the A/C filter as often as possible to keep it running smoothly and catch as many allergens as possible!
Using a wet duster instead of a dry one so the dust is trapped, not just spread around.

Turn your matress, vacuum it, spray it with Lysol spray, and add a new matress cover.
I turn my mattress at least 3 times per year, when you turn your mattress you flip it over and rotate it. This gives the most even wear. I vacuum it with my Dyson vac. and spray it with Lysol Spray or if I don't have Lysol, a quick spray of bleach and water, 1 part bleach to 4 parts water. I turn on the ceiling fan and let the mattress air dry for the day. Then in the mean time I wash the mattress pad and sheets in bleach water on hot setting.
I also dust all the surfaces of the room, pull the bed away from the wall and vacuum the carpet under the bed as well. I wash the curtains and iron them and put them back up. I try to do all of this on the same day so the room feels really clean.
I love to sleep in a clean bedroom!
Finally I spray Febreeze on the mattress and my carpet and chair and curtains. Then it smells really great :)
I found a spray that you can use to kill dust mites in furniture and fabric called Mites Out. I can't swear by it yet, as I haven't used it yet, but I plan to try it soon!
I follow.

I try to get the sheets washed frequently, but I fail miserably. :-( My son's get done fairly often - because he's still not quite night potty trained - but the master bedroom and my daughter's sheets... not so much. :-( My poor husband gets up sneezing every morning. :-/
Wash or sanitize hands frequently!

Keep your windows closed and stay indoors as much as you can if seasonal pollen is a problem. Consider a ventilation or filtration system for your home.
For those with nut allergies, avoid restaurants such as Logan's, Five Guys, and Texas Roadhouse which serve peanuts to all customers.

I use the steam cleaner (rug doctor) and clean all the carpets in the house. It helps.

we keep the windows closed during high pollen counts, remove shoes at the door, wash all curtains, blankets, pillows and dustruffles and stick all stuffed animals in the freezer to kill dust mites
We've tried to use air filters.

Simplify, simplify. Although I love having mementos and framed photos around the house, it's much easier to clean and keep clean when the only photos are on the wall and mementos are inside glass cabinets.

We steam (well actually Larry does) the wall to wall carpet with this iodine stuff that kills everything. He uses it to sterilize his brewing equipment. We do this 3 times a year.
All dogs get oatmeal baths monthly and they all have washable beds.
Every night before "cookie time" they get a combing with the flea comb, just in case. And this gets loose hair too.
I do a deep cleaning before winter comes. That means cleaning every single nook and cranny. Wash everything. The works

I wash down all the walls and clean the carpets before winter.
We do lots of vacuuming with a HEPA filter.
Rake leaves and put them in a compost pile

we vacuume daily and use good quality air filters
Because of allergies, we found a home with all wood floors!
Change air filters regularly. So much gets caught up in the filters and pretty soon they don't work nearly as well.
To avoid bee stings and potential allergic reactions from bug and insect bites, wear long sleeves, pants, and shoes with socks. Do not wear perfumes or sweet-scented products that would invite over insects
One of the things we have to do, that I hate, is close all our windows. If we open our windows in the fall we're all sneezing etc through the fall. We also wash our clothes right away and try to vacuum often. Thanks so much! pamelashockley(AT)netscape(DOT)net
Do not hang your clothes or sheets to dry outdoors because pollen can easily deposit and accumulate. Wash sheets in a temperature greater than 130 degrees to reduce dust mites, which are insects invisible to the naked eye but the most common cause of allergy symptoms...
Bathing your cat or dog on a weekly basis will reduce dander accumulation and can reduce allergen exposure
Inhaling mold spores can produce various irritating and uncomfortable allergic symptoms. To reduce indoor exposure, use a dehumidifier to keep the humidity in your home below 50 percent. Visible mold growth on ceilings, walls, showers and windows can be cleaned with a mild bleach solution.
Don’t be that guy who sniffs his shirt to see if he can wear it again. Once your clothing has been exposed to the pollen-filled fall air, wash it – and that goes for you, too.

Dust, vacuum & clean sheets once a week or as needed!
I like to get everything clean. I clean top to bottom including the ceiling fans, etc. Also, clean the vacuum & change the filters in the furnace, etc. My girls have asthma & we all have allergies, so it is really important to do this & use products to help asthma symptoms.
Drink a lot of cool water
Rehydrating is one of the best ways to eliminate toxins from your body. It cools you down and provides some symptom relief.
I wash bedding at least once a week in hot water and make sure I dust with a damp cloth. Vacuuming everyday helps and we have an air purifier!!
Replace as much carpet as possible, with hardwood, or tiles.

I can't leave the windows open--we have to use the AC or I will be sick most of the summer - early fall.
I recommend using "pillow covers" for allergy-sufferers, since you spend so many hours/day with your face in a pillow!! but we got them almost 6 years ago (for our wedding) so they desperately need to be replaced!
We change our filters and try to wash hands when we come inside
I recommend deep cleaning the carpets.

Be sure to clean off your ceiling fans, beat your rugs and throw pillows and change your air system filters. As a matter of fact, these things should be done at least once a month.
One tip that I have is to be sure to keep your windows shut!
