The Infinite Glade Blog Tour: Review and Prize Pack Giveaway

Are you a fan of the phenomenal Maze Runner series or the subsequent Maze Cutter series by #1 New York Times bestselling author James Dashner? Then you certainly don't want to miss The Infinite Glade, the long-awaited grand finale of The Maze Cutter trilogy. Enter to win a copy along with exclusive swag!

My Review:

Centering around the young descendants from The Maze Runner series, The Infinite Glade concludes the saga with a thrilling tale about the struggle for survival, the search for truth, and the fight for justice.

Set in a perilous post-apocalyptic world, the novel follows Isaac and his friends as they try to reunite with Sadina and her team in search of the Cure for the Flare, which has claimed countless innocent lives. Their unexpected encounter with two strangers leads to the revelation of startling secrets about the maze trials and their true identities. It's hard to tell who they can trust and who they should save.

Powered by rich imagination and solid world-building skills, the narrative keeps the reader captivated and fascinated by its unique mix of mystery, action, science fiction and fantasy. Told through two parallel plotlines, the story is well-paced to introduce an array of characters with complex relationships in the midst of all the twists and turns that blow the reader's mind away. While it's best understood with information from the previous books, sufficient explanations are provided through the characters' conversations and flashbacks to ensure a smooth read for those new to the series.

Although being a work of fiction, the book has strong relevance to and implications for what happens in the real world. It provokes ethical questions about scientific research involving human subjects. It raises concerns about social justice regarding whether lives should be valued and protected equally. It also explores the power of friendship and teamwork in the face of life-threatening challenges.

Expertly written and thought-provoking, The Infinite Glade makes an enthralling read for dystopian fans and mystery lovers. As a perfect way to complete the collection of The Maze Runner saga, it will sure tempt one to long for more books from the talented author.

About the Book:

Ages: 12-17 | 268 Pages

The Infinite Glade is the explosive finale of The Maze Cutter trilogy—and the epic conclusion to The Maze Runner saga.

War has finally ignited. The Remnant Nation is done waiting. Their mission: destroy the Godhead and everything she stands for. But as Sadina and the islanders fight to protect the Goddess—who claims to be their only hope for Evolution’s survival—the battle reveals unfathomable truths leaving behind devastation that will change the islanders’ future forever.

Determined to save their friends, Isaac and Ximena—along with Old Man Frypan and Jackie—struggle to find their way back to the others when two strangers intercept them, throwing everything they thought they knew about the Cure into doubt. Following the strangers into the unknown, Frypan unearths the shocking truth behind the Cure and the secrets so many have died to protect. But what they uncover is only the beginning.

The descendants must decide between risking their lives and the safety of those they love back home to expose the painful truth behind the maze trials, or walk away from history’s darkest secrets and let the truth remain buried in the Glade forever.

ForeverChild: A Novel of the Future Blog Tour: Review and Prize Pack Giveaway

The pursuit of youth and longevity dates way back to ancient history, and remains notable among those with power and wealth. What if science were to turn that long-held dream into reality someday? Would you live in a world that defies the natural process of aging if given the chance? You may answer differently after reading ForeverChild: A Novel of the Future by Mark Lavine. Check out this fantastic book and enter to win a signed copy, along with a signed poster and a Kindle Paperwhite!

My Review:

Fast-paced and full of suspense, ForeverChild is an entrancing dystopian science fiction about survival, sacrifice, social justice, and what constitutes a meaningful life. Set in three-hundred years into the future, the story follows two ten-year-old boys, whose fates make a dramatic turn as a result of a natural disaster. Seelin, who has never left the comfort and security of the Great Hive of San Jose since birth, gets stranded in the outside world plagued by hunger, poverty, and virus infection. Kianno, an outsider constantly struggling for survival, gives up his fight and agrees to take Seelin's place in the hive. Inhabitants of the hives are known as forever children, who are able to retain the physical appearance of a youngster for hundreds of years with the help of the regulators. Meanwhile, they have to stay confined inside their luxurious cage-like complexes, being tracked and monitored constantly for their protection.

Thirty years later, Kianno sneaks out of the hive in search of answers about his past, but only finds himself captured by Seelin and forced to become a subject of the outsiders' conversion experiment. Will Kianno learn to embrace his delayed adulthood and return to the world where he originally belongs? Will Seelin succeed in destroying the hive from the inside? It's impossible to predict the directions in which their life paths extend until the very end.

With vivid descriptions and imaginative details, the author masterfully constructs a complex, technologically advanced, yet socially disintegrated future world that the readers can easily visualize and immerse in. The pacing and the order in which the events are introduced are perfect to keep the readers on the edge of their seats. The stress and struggle the characters have to go through feel real and relatable. And more importantly, this story of the future urges us to reflect upon the present.

While mocking the unhealthy obsession with a youthful look, the book explicitly or implicitly raises questions about pressing social issues such as institutionalized segregation and inequality, monopoly over critical resources like land and water, conflict between the elite class and the underprivileged, crime and violence intensified by poverty and oppression, governance based on deception and manipulation, ethics of medical research, and more. It stimulates young adults to be critical thinkers and to engage in more in-depth discussions on social values, social justice and social change.

Action-packed and thought-provoking, ForeverChild makes a worthy read for sci-fi and adventure lovers.

Charlie Hernández and the Golden Dooms: Win a Signed Copy and an Amazon Gift Card!

Charlie Hernández and the Golden Dooms is the third book in the Latinx mythology-inspired fantasy series written by award-winning author Ryan Calejo. Follow Charlie in his thrilling new adventure and enter to win an awesome prize pack including a signed copy of the book and a $15 Amazon gift card! You may learn about the first two books here and here.

About the Book:

Inspired by Hispanic folklore, legends, and myths from the Iberian Peninsula and Central and South America, this third book in the Charlie Hernández series follows Charlie as he fights against an army of the dead.

After hitchhiking across Central and South America to rescue the Witch Queen and face off against La Mano Peluda, Charlie Hernández is pretty much grounded for life. But after all he’s been through, some quiet time at home with his parents might be nice. Though it would be better if he didn’t have to share his room with his obnoxiously perfect cousin Raúl, who’s staying with them.

But quiet is hard to come by when you’re the fifth and final morphling, and it’s not long before death walks back into Charlie’s life. Or at least, the dead do, starting with a mysterious young calaca who corners him at school, dropping cryptic hints about trouble brewing in the 305. With the League of Shadows focused on repairing fractured alliances and tracking gathering armies, this one’s up to Charlie to solve.

Following the clues only leads to more questions, and not even teenage investigative journalist extraordinaire Violet Rey can figure out how a sudden rooster infestation, earthquakes, missing persons, and a pet-napping gang of lizard-men—whom Charlie doesn’t recognize from any legend—are all connected. Most concerning of all is when they learn a map has been stolen that reveals the locations of the Golden Dooms, the twelve ancient calaca watchmen who form the magical barrier between the realms.

To stop the impending invasion, Charlie and Violet must outwit an ancient evil and unravel the most sinister of schemes. That is, unless they’d rather watch the Land of the Living get overrun by the dead.

Witches Protection Program Blog Tour: Review & Prize Pack Giveaway

It is a police officer's duty to protect all law-abiding citizens. But should that cover witches too, if they exist at all? For those who believe in witches, it's not hard to understand that there are good witches and bad witches. But have you ever thought of an underground government agency committed to protecting the good witches against the bad ones? Learn all about the Witches Protection Program by reading Michael Okon's new paranormal thriller Witches Protection Program!

My Review
With a witty blend of fantasy, suspense, adventure and romance, Witches Protection Program is an absolutely enchanting read! The story is fast-paced, action-packed, and full of wild imaginations that are embellished with a great sense of humor. I wanted to unravel the mysteries in the story so badly that I had to finish reading the book in one sitting.

I am deeply impressed with how well-developed each and every character is, from Wes, a son who desperately tries to prove his worth as a law enforcement officer to his dad, to those who work for Bernadette Pendragon, the mastermind of an ambitious yet evil plan to control the world through a powerful skin care product. I can easily visualize what each character looks like, what their personalities are, and how they would react to a situation through the author's brief yet vivid sketches. What I like most is the interactions between the unlikely couple of Wes, the big, muscle guy who didn't believe in witches and thought the Witches Protection Program was a joke, and Morgan, a tiny young girl who was reluctant to use her talents as a witch unless when it was urgently necessary.

Another fascinating feature of the book is that its magical mix of fiction and fact makes it hard sometimes for the reader to tell imagination from reality. You might be convinced that witches do exist if you believe otherwise before reading the book :) The story ended with a cliffhanger that hinted at a sequel. I definitely look forward to reading more stories about the Witches Protection Program!

About the Book

The Knowing Blog Tour: Review & Prize Pack Giveaway

Do you believe in destiny when it comes to love matters? Have you ever experienced the feeling that you had known someone all along even though you met for the first time? JB Stratton and Ellie in The Knowing by Brit Lunden definitely shared that strong yet inexplicable connection the moment they saw each other. The Knowingis the first book of A Bulwark Anthology, a spin-off series by a group of talented writers with stories set in Bulwark, a fictional town isolated from the rest of the world. Read on for more information about the book and the chance to win an awesome prize pack from the author.

My Review:
While the name Brit Lunden is new to me, the author is not. I enjoyed reading her children's books written under a different name. I'm really curious about how her adult fiction would turn out. To my delight, she never disappoints her readers as an amazing writer! I love the story and love the way the story is told even more. The Knowing is a short and smooth read, following the heartfelt love story between football player JB and his high school sweetheart Ellie, who eventually became his wife.

As explained by JB's grandma, the Knowing is "that feeling when you gonna meet your someone special." It was the Knowing that made JB and Ellie realized that they were meant for each other; it was the Knowing that helped JB feel Ellie's presence even when he couldn't find her from the crowd; and it was the Knowing that fueled them with the power to overcome all the barriers that stood in the way of their relationship, including the disparity in social status and persistent opposition from family members.

The skillful storytelling brings the characters to life and provides a highly immersive reading experience. The book is filled with details that help me feel the intensity of the characters' emotions and their internal struggles. The hint of supernaturality adds suspense and mystery to the romance and makes possible an ending as comforting as what we have now. I strongly urge you to read Brit Lunden's original novella Bulwark as well, which sets the stage for all the characters in the anthology and offers more excitement for fans of paranormal thrillers.

About the Book:

Kenneth Kocher seems to have it all - a good heart, a sense of humor, decent looks, and lots of money. What he doesn't have is something most of us take for granted - freedom of speech. Kenneth lives with a severe stutter which has wreaked havoc with his life since childhood.

After much embarrassment, pain and soul-searching, Kenneth realizes that to free his inner self he must accept the fact that he cannot be cured, and that he must learn to stutter with grace. Along the way he meets another stutterer and a young widow who are both dealing with the stumbling blocks in their own lives.

Using an experimental syntax to portray the neurological component of the syndrome, the novel gives the reader a unique view of stuttering from the inside out.

Praises:

This is an extraordinary book. It’s the inside dope on stuttering. And if one person was born to tell the story, it’s David Sherman. And does he have a story to tell. The plot is consummate, the writing proficient, the pacing skillful, with a clarity of detail that renders it very realistic. After awhile, I found myself caring about all the characters, even (or particularly) the minor ones, oftentimes because they reminded me of myself, and were therefore incredible familiar. It is a reflection of the author’s versatility –as educator, in math and Language Arts, as musician and writer –and diversity –Jewish, New York born and bred, having resided all over the world –that some parts of the writing even speak to the Oriental in me. As each of the characters, stuttering and non-, go about their lives, problem-solving, adapting, you cannot help but see the parables at a universal level. Resonant, poignant, and ultimately elucidatory, this book get an A+ from me. ---- Ling T., Guatemala

In addition to those who struggle with dysfluency and their friends and family, I highly recommend this novel to educators and speech pathologists to ensure their understanding of the multi-faceted impact that this neurological syndrome can have on one’s identity. ---- Shari Mayerson, MS, CCC-SLP

What is my purpose? How can I be happy? For thousands of years, people have pondered these big questions, often finding the answers elusive. In Map to Happiness, Peter Stimpson, an Episcopal priest and experienced therapist, doesn’t claim to have all the answers. Still, he generously shares a wealth of wisdom he has learned by counseling and ministering to people for more than thirty-five years.

Stimpson anchors happiness in a pyramid of principles: insecurity, power, and success. He explains that by understanding everyone is insecure, we can take back our power from others to define our worth and reach for success in lasting values, not things. His message is clear: who you become is more important than what you attain.

Stimpson illustrates the power of his trilogy by answering today’s ubiquitous questions related to love of yourself, your spouse, your children, and life’s challenges of stress, work, illness, anger, and death. Using both spiritual and psychological perspectives, Stimpson frankly discusses how we stray off the path to happiness, but more important, how we can get back on track.

If you are confused or lost, open this map and begin your journey. You’ll find help sifting through confusing issues with easy-to-understand explanations and ready-to-use solutions.

Supernatural abilities haunt her. Brainiac students taunt her. The FBI “Freak Squad” wants her. Will she abandon her extra sensory talents in favor of freedom, or will she hone them to help catch crooks?

Former army brat, Ainsley Benton, may have finally found her place in this world, and it’s among the freaks. This small town art teacher has the ability to see, hear, and feel what other people are experiencing, and now the FBI’s freak squad wants to use her “human bug” abilities to catch bad guys.
