Synopsis:
The inspiring true story of 12-year-old Donn Fendler who, separated from his family by a fast-moving storm, must fight to stay alive while lost for nine-days in the remote wilderness of northern Maine. Donn’s disappearance captures national headlines and sparks a massive search effort attracting hundreds of volunteers, including his own father who fears he may never see his son again.
My Review:
Featuring interviews with Donn Fendler's family members, friend, park ranger and volunteer involved in the search, Lost on a Mountain in Maine is a heartwarming movie about a tough teenage boy's miraculous survival after wandering in the backwoods of Maine for nine days without food or proper clothing.
By juxtaposing Donn's arduous adventure in Katahdin Woods and his parents' anxious search and wait, the film shows the strong bond between them, their shared determination, and the incredible power of family and love. Donn never gives up trying to find his way home, while his parents never give up looking for him. It's impossible to hold back my tears when they finally get renuited. Videos that recorded the real reunion are included in the ending part of the movie.
The film explores various aspects of family relationships, especially the dynamics between father and son, and between siblings. It encourages us to put family first and to express love openly whenever possible. It's a great movie to watch around the holidays.
