My Review:
Elijah Goes to Cleveland is an engaging and educational read for those who love to travel, explore, solve puzzles and take on challenges. During his visit to his grandparents in Cleveland, Elijah goes on a scavenger hunt around the city by following picture clues posted by members of his favorite music band, because this is the only way he can win free tickets to their surprise concert. Elijah enlists the help of his grandparents, who know the city really well, and joins a race against the clock to gain access to the experience of a lifetime.
With realistic illustrations and fast-paced storytelling, the book showcases various landmarks in Cleveland as the readers follow the unique adventure of Elijah and his grandparents. A lovely tourist map and additional information and online resources about each location being featured in the book are provided at the conclusion of the story. As someone who has never been to Cleveland, I have learned quite a bit about the city thanks to this book. Those who are really into pop music may recognize quite a few familiar faces from the illustrations.
While the book encourages young readers to explore the world around them and not to give up easily, it suggests some fun activities for family members to spend quality time together. The conversations between Elijah and his grandparents clearly show how close their relationship gets. The story also provides an inspiring example of how hard work pays off. I hope the book will expand into a series where Elijah goes to new places and makes new friends.
