I received a copy of The Super Duper Princess Heroes: How It All Started for review. As the first in the series, the book follows Kinney, Oceana, and Sammie as they acquire super powers--speed, strength and flight--from magical tiaras inside a pretty purse they come across in the woods. Their regular clothes also turn into glamorous gowns. Now as Super Duper Princess Heroes, they can use their powers to help those in need and even save the world.
The book challenges the commercialized stereotype of princesses, who are all about fancy dresses, glittering jewelry, and good looks. Instead, it portraits a princess as someone empowered with courage, intelligence, independence, and a kind heart. Besides, the story also teaches children about the importance of teamwork, proper use of power, and the right attitude toward their privileges or endowments.
My children were instantly drawn to the book by its colorful pictures and then begged me to read it from beginning to end in one sitting. They absolutely loved reading the book with me. The story is well written, beautifully illustrated, and with the right blend of such captivating elements as magic, adventure, and super powers. I love the clever way in which the author delivers his message, which is easy for children to comprehend and will likely benefit them for the rest of their lives.
The Super Duper Princess Heroes is an awesome read for both boys and girls. It makes an excellent Christmas gift too. I look forward to finding out what fascinating adventures the girls will embark on next. You can grab a copy of the book at your local bookstore or online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
