Many of you may already know about Room on the Broom, Penguin Publishing’s best-selling Halloween title sold over 500,000 copies from 2011-2012. The book is written by Julia Donaldson (winner of the British Smarties Prize) and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, the same author and illustrator team that created the critically acclaimed The Gruffalo. The story follows a kind witch and her cat as they take an eventful ride on the witch's broom. Various Belongings of the witch fall onto the ground and are found by three friendly creatures a dog, a bird and a frog, all of whom request to join the adventure. Is there enough room for everyone? Will everything be alright throughout the trip? You'd better find out by reading the book!
The Room on the Broom DVD was released in August 2013, featuring an half-hour animated film based on the book. The book’s drawings are brought to life under the direction of Max Lang, and the voices of Gillian Anderson (The X Files), Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead), and more.
Fun activities related to the book are available at EntertainmentThatEducates.com, including a printable coloring page, templates for creating finger puppets and a magic wand, a word search puzzle and more. You can also make a witch costume out of a trash bag!
NCircle Entertainment kindly provided me with a hardcover copy of the book and the DVD for review. My kids love the rhyming sounds, the colorful and the intriguing story in the book. By reading the book, they learned about the importance of friendship, teamwork, and willingness to help those in need. The movie helps them understand the book better. They were excited to see their favorite characters in animation.
Room on the Broom is not your typical Halloween story, but the book and DVD will definitely make an awesome gift for your little one. Enter to win the prize pack by filling out the Rafflecopter form below. Good luck and have fun hopping on!
