Some of you may still remember the Flip for Fall challenge last year, when Aller-Ease provided me with one set of protective bedding products to try for free and another set to give away. The giveaway was quite a blast and we love all the products we received, especially the pillows. This year, Aller-Ease has generously sent us 2 Allergy Protection Pillow and 1 Queen Size Mattress Protector from their Cotton Comfort line, which fit our new mattress perfectly.
You're welcome to check out the short video, in which I show you the Aller-Ease products I received and some of my self-made spring cleaning tools (I've got a sore throat. Please excuse me for the low and coarse voice).
As part of the "Spring Into Action" project, Aller-Ease is compiling a Best Spring Cleaning Tips of All Time List based on the spring cleaning tips and tricks collected on the 15 participating blogs as well as in the Spring Into Action Circle on The Motherhood. All tipsters are eligible to win 1 of 15 blog giveaways plus 1 of 3 Spring Cleaning Prize Baskets (consisting of 1 pillow, 1 queen cotton mattress protector, 2 queen cotton pillow protectors, Kleenex, Halls Cough drops, Clorox wipes, Various cleaning supplies, and Spring linens)!
In addition, Aller-Ease is hosting a Spring into Action contest now through April 30th. By telling Aller-Ease the most disgusting thing you found during your spring cleaning, you’ll be entered to win a grand prize of an Aller-Ease allergy-proofing bedroom makeover for your entire home (up to four beds). There are tons of chances to win if you enter all the amazing giveaways!

Thanks to Aller-Ease and The Motherhood, one of my lucky readers will win an Aller-Ease Spring Into Action Prize Pack, including 1 Standard Allergen Barrier Pillows with Washable Cover, 2 Zippered Pillow Protectors and 1 Queen Size Mattress Protector! My spring cleaning tip: take it one room at a time. I start upstairs and do a room a day, I wash down the walls, clean all of the linens, clean out drawers, etc. Not only do I clean, but I also purge items that we don't need or use anymore. It's a great feeling when the entire house has been cleaned top to bottom.....also, I have a great stash for our garage sale!!

We do a room a day and my daughters are each given their own tasks. When each room is done then we celebrate with a cookie. That way my daughters are motivated to do the next room on our list.
I use the three bin system to go through closets, drawers and cupboards. One bin for keep, one for trash and one for donate. It helps to de-clutter

I bathe my window blinds every other year. I vacuum the blinds first to remove as much dirt as possible. Then dip them in water mixed with a few drops of mild dish soap. The bathtub works well for this type of chore.

To get the grout on my counters especially clean and non toxic I use vinegar and baking soda.

I have a retractable clothes line that I use to hang up my area rugs and give them a good airing out on a nice sunny spring day.

Cut a lemon in half, put the pieces in a microwave-safe bowl with water to cover, and cook on High for two to three minutes in the micro. The steam will soften hardened food inside the oven while you enjoy the citrus scent.

Hopefully cold and flu season is over, but I go through the medicine cabinets to get rid of any expired medications.

To clean the upholstery of unwanted odors sprinkle stale cushions and chairs with baking soda, then vacuum after letting it sit for a while.

Vacuuming before cleaning will make the cleaning process easier and faster. Use your vacuum’s crevice attachment to get into tight spaces and reach under cabinets.

To clean under the fridge try a sock attached to a measuring stick.

Dirty window screens can be easily cleaned using a steam cleaner
To clean the winter odor out of carpets try sprinkling plain baking soda on them. Use a clean spice container that has a removable lid with holes, and cover all of the carpets with a light dusting of baking soda. Allow the baking soda to remain on the carpets overnight, and in the morning, vacuum away the odors.

Rather than doing it all at once I commit to doing a little bit of cleaning every day for the entire season. Partly because with a baby it is hard to get a block of time to get it all done.

To wash my blinds, I take them down and lay them on my driveway, spray them with cleaner, wait a few minutes then spray them off with the hose. They come out clean with little to no effort, I dry them over the porch railing before returning them to the window.
I like to do one room a day from top to bottom.

I start with the smallest room. I have found that if I can just get in a groove, I can finish. It also helps if I can get help from the kids, at least get them to help with their rooms.

vinegar and baking soda
My fall cleaning tip: I learned this off of a baby site; I put the kid's stuffed toys in the top shelf of the dishwasher and run it. They say it's better for them then the washer that spins them around and around. It's great for baby toys and cloth books too!
My fall cleaning tip 2: The Magic Eraser is great for refrigerator handles, bath tubs, on the base of the stove (on the floor).
My fall cleaning tip 3: I wash the drapes. They say that they hold a lot of dust. With my fabric blinds, I vacuum them.
My fall cleaning tip 3: I wash the drapes. They say that they hold a lot of dust. With my fabric blinds, I vacuum them.
My fall cleaning tip 4: I try and have the kids and us take our shoes off at the door. Otherwise they track in pollen and dirt. I got an under storage shoe holder, this is great to put off season shoes.
vinegar replaces a lot of cleaning products

My fall cleaning tip 5: I wash our pillow cases in every load of laundry. It's nice to have back up pillow cases.
My fall cleaning tip 6: I clean counters, sinks and floors with distilled vinegar and water. This is much better then many products you can buy because it isn't toxic. It doesn't smell because the water neutralizes the vinegar.
My fall cleaning tip 7: I clean I clean our hair bushes out regularly. An old hair pick work great to pick all the hair out. Then I put the hair brushes in water and shampoo for a few hours. I work it in with my hands and wow a clean brush!
my spring cleaning tip is to use all the same color hangers in each closets
My tip is to get rid of the clutter. Everything that has not been used in the past few months goes. Makes cleaning so much easier the rest of the year.

Not a super tip, but I find the hardest part is getting started. So, I pick a relatively small task/project and get it done. Looking at the completed job gives me satisfaction and motivation to continue on with others...
My tip is not to try to do it all in one day.
I try to start cleaning as soon as the pollen here in NC is over so I can open the windows and air out the rooms as I clean.
I just make it a rule that you can't move on to another room until the one you are working on is done..other wise I keep seeing new tasks & everything only gets half done.
Thanks!
Do a little daily then it won't be a huge task all at once.
