Loaded with riddles, twists and surprises, The Mystery of Mystic Mountain delivers a thrilling and thought-provoking narrative about family, friendship, love and self-love.

While her mom tries to figure out what to do about her crumbling marriage, 12-year-old Becca worries about losing her old self as well as her old friend if she continues on her path to pursuing popularity at school. Instead of getting the pampering spa vacation they have longed for, the mother and daughter duo ends up in a remote ranch with spotty Internet and an unexplainable mysterious vibe. Becca's knowledge of geology attracts the attention of Jon, who seeks her help for deciphering some coded messages and for tracking down treasures left by a legendary outlaw. What they find however, turns out to be nothing like what they have expected.

This middle grade adventure novel is a smooth and engaging read with plenty of action and suspense to hold the interest of inquisitive minds. What makes it stand out is the author's vivid depiction of the main character's complex inner world, including her emotions, her struggles, her growth, and her yearning for understanding, recognition and reconciliation.
