My kids are always excited about family night at school, when they can showcase all the fun things they are doing in their classrooms. It never occurred to me that not all kids feel the same way until I read Embarrassing George, the latest picture book from multi-award-winning author Kimber Fox Morgan. Some of you may recall reading my review of her award-winning book Chipper Makes Merry. Be sure to watch Chipper make a guest appearance in the new book! My Review:
Embarrassing George is a very funny and relatable short story about family, individuality and acceptance. George dreads the family night at school because he thinks everyone in his family is quirky and embarrassing in some way. Fortunately, his family is not alone. And, it's hard to predict who will be the one causing a chaos!
With George as the narrator, the book is very friendly to beginner readers, who can understand and enjoy the story fully as if they were listening to a kid of their age venting about his family's bizzare behavior. The illustrations are humorous, engaging and expressive. Each page drops hints about some other side of the story that George has omitted either deliberately or subconsiciously. The fun of reading is doubled!
While the story prompts young readers to think about the hilarious moments in their own families, it assures them that it is OK for someone in the family to look weird or embarrassing at times. What really matters is how much they love and support you when you need them most. It's important to learn to appreciate them just the way they are. That's what holds the family together. The book is a perfect pick when the whole family wants to read and have a hearty laugh together.
About the Book:
Ages 4+ | 34 Pages
Publisher: Creative, Simple Wonder Press | ISBN-13: 9781737038641
Everyone in George’s family is so embarrassing. His mom can’t cook, his sister is constantly making kissy faces to her phone, and his brother’s wardrobe consists of nothing but costumes. To top it off, George’s dad is known for going outdoors in his underwear!
Will Family Night at school reveal all of their quirks?
Or will George want to hide under his desk to avoid them?
