My Review:
The adventure of tech-savvy third grader Eudora continues in Eudora Space Kid: The Lobster Tale. Feeling betrayed by her dad's decision to give up the lobsters in his science lab for the spaceship's annual New Year Grand Dinner Buffet, Eudora sets out on a secret rescue mission for her beloved lobster friends. Her plan works perfectly until she gets accidentally dragged into a tour of the bridge, the spaceship's control center where a real attack from the hostile Qlaxons comes dangerously close. Will the adorable lobsters escaping from her bag, or the silly song she uses to replace the red alert sound, trigger a turn of events in Eudora's favor?
Written with great humor that resonates with school-aged kids, the book creates a truly loveable and relatable main character, who is also the narrator. The casual, conversational storytelling style reveals a lot about Eudora's personality, while making the reading fun and comfortable. Daring, assertive, ambitious and determined to reach her goal, Eudora is the girl who introduces herself as "a whiz at math, science and engineering", and who claims that the captain's chair will be hers one day if she can't become chief engineer. Funny and chatty, Eudora is also a caring and loyal friend who can be trusted and depended upon. Her computer skills have ostensibly improved in book two, for even experienced engineers are unable to undo her adjustment to the computer program. In addition, she has grown to be more considerate, responsible and willing to accept the consequences of her actions.
By showing all the fun one can have with science and technology, the story may get youngsters, especially girls, to become more interested in STEM. Eudora's persistence with her dream, along with the prevalence of female leaders in the story (such as the vice captain, the science chief, the brig warden, and the Qlaxon captain), may motivate girls to pursue a career and leadership positions in the field of math, science, technology and engineering.
Both entertaining and eyeopening, the Eudora Space Kid is a worthy read for sci-fi and humor lovers. Hints have been dropped here and there about more books in the series. Hope Eudora will keep her promise to tell us about those stories "some other time."

Freedom for lobsters! The second in the Eudora Space Kid series: a hilariously funny, early reader sci-fi chapter book perfect for elementary-aged kids. Can Eudora and her best friend, Arnold, rescue her favorite lobsters from becoming the next meal at the spaceship’s New Year’s buffet?
Eudora is a normal third-grader who just happens to live on a 36 deck AstroLiner. In SPACE! As a math and science whiz who’s been adopted by what you might call . . . aliens, she has normal ambitions—like being the chief engineer on an AstroLiner. But when her favorite lobsters on board appear on the menu at Chef Franklin’s dinner buffet, Eudora and her best friend, Arnold, hatch a plan to break them out. Will they save their crustacean friends? Or will they end up locked in the ship’s brig? Again . . .
Brilliant for engaging emergent and early chapter book readers.
