My Review:
Popper and Friends: Popper Finds a New Home is a delightful short story about an adventurous young woodpecker named Popper, who just gets old enough to move out of his parents' house. Excited to have more space to himself soon, Popper embarks on a search for his new home. From the pond to the pole, he looks high and low for the perfect place to build a house of his own, learning something new from the friends he comes across at each location.
The book is well written and beautifully illustrated. While following along Popper's interesting adventure around the farm, young readers get to meet different animals living in different environments, and learn how to ask for help politely, how to gather information, how to cheer up a friend, and how to deal with feelings of frustration. From a parent's perspective, I appreciate that Popper's parents give him the opportunity to conduct research on his own, show trust and support for his judgement, and thereby help him grow into an independent, adaptive problem-solver. Overall, the book is a pleasant and educational read for everyone.
