My Review:

Bentley and the Magic Sticks tells a touching and thought-provoking story that brought both my son and me to tears. Bentley is a friendly dog, but he has no friends to play with simply because he is exceptionally large in size and leaves the wrong impression that he would hurt anyone within reach. Nonetheless, Bentley is grateful for all he has got in life and finds tremendous joy in collecting sticks of all sizes. One day, his Fairy Dogmother Tia decides to help Bentley make new friends by adding magic to his sticks. But will magic do the trick as she expected?

The author really impresses me with her solid story-telling and character building skills. Bentley is such an adorable creature that it is impossible for the reader not to fall in love with him as the story unfolds. He helps pick up the newspaper in the driveway and the trash in the dog park. He never complains about being misunderstood and having no friends although we can all feel how lonely he gets at times. We can also see how much he cherishes his one and only new friend Sticky and hear his heart break when Sticky is gone. The realistic and lovely illustrations in the book add to the charm of the vivid descriptions and bring all the characters to life.

This is a story about love, kindness, friendship and acceptance. It warns against stereotypes and prejudices. The book is a fascinating and heartwarming read that no animal lovers would want to miss. I'd highly recommend it!
