About the Book

Young Wilhelm leaves home and travels the world. He not only discovers the value of different cultures and the importance of family and friendship, but he also overcomes obstacles with courage and cleverness. He returns home with deep respect for all creatures on this earth and a new sense of rat identity and purpose.

My Review:
The Adventures of Wilhelm is undoubtedly a fun, smooth and informative read for both children and adults. Readers learn a lot about different cultures including food, history, tourist attractions, people and their way of life through the eyes of a little rat who is eager to explore and experience the world around him. The story flows nicely as if it were read by a gentle, sweet voice. The author cleverly turns usually despicable creatures into likeable characters.

While it encourages young readers to travel with an open mind and loving heart, the novel reveals both the bright and dark sides of human nature and society with humor and subtlety. The underlying message is that creatures of all kinds deserve to be respected and appreciated in their own right. I enjoyed reading this short story and hope you and your child will get to check it out too.
