My Review:

Catalina and the King's Wall is definitely a short and SWEET read as it makes you crave such delicious treats as cookies. The story is fun and unique in that Catalina creatively experiments with various baking ingredients in her attempt to outwit the stubborn and unreasonable king until she succeeds in reuniting with her family living in the neighboring country. The book is filled with colorful illustrations that not only nicely complement the text but also add a touch of humor with funny characters and intriguing details not covered in the text.

The book is great to use to teach young readers about kindness, compassion, creativity and problem-solving. It also urges older readers to reflect upon current events like tightened border controls and tensions between countries. It encourages us to learn to embrace the differences across cultures and nations instead of trying to build an indestructible wall that stands in the way of communication and conflict resolution. It's an entertaining and thought-provoking book that's worth reading over and over again with the kids.
