Christmas is one of kids' favorite holidays because there are often something nice to look forward to from Santa Claus or their parents (if they are old enough to find out). But when we spoil our children with goodies on their wishlist, we may have forgotten to tell them that Christmas is more about giving than taking. Finding The Baby Jesus is a gentle reminder that we should teach our little ones about the true meaning of Christmas or encourage them to find it out on their own, like what happened in the story.
The book is a short and sweet read for both children and adults. The story is touching, thought-provoking, and enlightening. I love how well the author brings the characters to life, especially the teenage boy Chris, by following his thoughts, feelings, and body language. I was deeply moved by the strong emotional connection between Chris and his late grandma. I felt so excited for him when his wish came true--finding a Christmas gift hidden by his grandma--The Baby Jesus, that is. It is truly amazing how he came to the realization of what Christmas truly means and took the angelic action of giving away the present he had been coveting for so long. In fact, I felt ashamed of myself because I couldn't have done that when I were at his age.
I highly recommend this book for everyone. It's the perfect story to read to your children this holiday season. It will help you teach them not to take everything they have for granted and to be aware of those who are less fortunate than us. More importantly, we should carry on the giving spirit of Christmas all year long!
