Enlightenment for Nitwits Blog Tour

Enlightenment
With a new baby around, I wasn't able to do a lot of reading this summer, but I am so glad that I have chosen to read and review Enlightenment for Nitwits: The Complete Guide To 2012 & Beyond by Shepherd Hoodwin. Have you ever thought that enlightenment and entertainment can go hand in hand? This book will show you exactly how!

Enlightenment
Not until I started reading the book did I realize that its title is a parodic combination of the popular For Dummies & The Complete Idiot's Guide book series. Allegedly designed to get you prepared for the 2012 Doomsday, the book pokes fun at various aspects of modern life in an ostensibly innocent tone. The book is not what I thought it was, but I love it!

Enlightenment for Nitwits is a fun and easy read. I had no problem reading it while breastfeeding. Written in a conversational style, it is full of hilarious and witty one-liners that I can't wait to share with anyone near me. It covers a lot of things that you wouldn't expect from a book on Enlightenment, from Brad Pitt to Craigslist.

Hoodwin's comment on Facebook may give you a flavor of his book:

"Frankly, I don't completely understand Facebook. For one thing, I was raised never to write on my wall. Also my nephew asked me to send him a chicken for Farmville, so I went to a farm and got him one. I packed her carefully, but the post office wouldn't take her--they said she was too old. Isn't that ageism? Even worse, they looked at me like I was a terrorist trying to mail a chicken of mass destruction."

I'm sure not everyone will appreciate Hoodwin's unique sense of humor and a few may even feel offended on some sensitive topics. But I do think the book is enlightening in its own right besides lightening up my day with tons of good laughs. If I have understood him correctly, Hoodwin is encouraging us to take a positive attitude toward life and to make the best out of a bad situation.
