My Review:
If I Were Human is a simple yet truly entertaining story told from the perspective of an imaginative dog named Brina. Papa's comment that she sometimes looked human prompted Brina to think seriously about what she would do if she were human. She then went on to interview her friend Winnie with the same question. The topic was so interesting that their animal friends nearby couldn't help joining in the conversation and offering their own answers. Their discussion revealed the activities characteristic of different occupations, such as a student, an office worker, a cook and even a movie star. As the story unfolds, the readers also learn about the daily routines of Brina and Winne, who came to the conclusion that they would want to be a dog after all if they were humans.

My preschooler, who is a dedicated dog lover, fell in love with If I Were Human as soon as he saw the cover. He couldn't have enough of the story and asked me to read it over and over again. The book is filled with adorable and humorous illustrations that help young readers relate to the details described in the text. I love that the animals retained some of their traits even when they imagined themselves to be humans. For instance, Brina would raise her paw to answer the teacher's question. The squirrel would add acorns to the vegetable soup she were to serve her human guests. Besides, a dog's life does sound good to me judging from the nice treats and fun activities Brina and Winnie had in the story ^_^! If I Were Human is a cute little book to read with your kids, who may learn something about people from all walks of life as well as the typical life of a beloved pet.
